Five errors in eight games? Is this just an aberration, or is he a hack with the mitt?

Five errors in eight games? Is this just an aberration, or is he a hack with the mitt? He'll be fine. He's just rushing, like any 22 year old rookie is prone to do. Best option they have right now. He was very good defensively at short in AAA.

Machado to short is a downgrade at shortstop and third base.

Nope, they don't. Machado at shortstop over 2,000 innings (roughly) has either -11 or -13 DRS, a -4.8 UZR and ranks 38th defensively since 2015 among shortstops with more than 1,000 innings played. There are 50 qualifiers.

Once the Padres stumbled out of the gate in the 2nd half, and Tatis went down, this ceased being primarily about winning games. It is now development season - Urias is at short more to see if he can handle more than one position. He was the top PCL SS defensively. This also allows France to play at 2B, to see if he can handle more than just 3B.

I also don't see France and Urias in the organization by the end of 2020. At this point, the Padres SHOULD play them both. IMO, France will be traded, and Urias will be the 2nd baseman. I really like Urias at 2nd. SS? No thanks.

Urias had another blunder yesterday. He is a mess at short. 8 errors in the short time he has been up
