I immediately thought of Angel pitcher Nick Adenhart who, following an appearance on the Angel mound, was killed by a drunk driver. Different circumstances, but it involved a young man with so much to live for, so much ahead of him, suffering the same fate. For the record, Angel pitching is loaded with tragedy. I watched Donnie Moore serve up the winning pitch that sent Boston to the World Series. He never recovered and eventually committed suicide.

Lyman Bostock in 1978 was shot and killed in September of that year. Oh yea. He had just come over from the Twins, was off to a poor start, and was going to donate his salary, (?!). Ended up gaining mucho traction and, I think, was leading the team in hitting as the season drew down. Then he was gunned down in Gary, Indiana, just across the border, after playing the Sox, by some "wac-job". Yea, some seriously tragic history with this team. Sometimes, I have a hard time remembering my wife's birthday, but stuff like this? Like it happened yesterday.
