Perdomo up from El Paso, and Quantrill down to El Paso.

Luis was flat out awful today. But they don't need Quantrill's spot for 10 days.

It would appear that since the last bad outing for Perdomo at the end of May, he has become a pretty reliable reliever out of the bullpen for the Padres.

Green should have allowed Perdomo to pitch the 8th last night. He had an easy 7th and Stammen has been terrible recently.

Quantrill, bobbing and weaving, went 5 1/3 innings today while throwing 108 pitches. Way too many pitches, but only gave up the 2 first inning runs, and picked up the victory. Despite the head-scratching use of the bullpen again by the hopefully former manager after this season Andy Green.

Green complains about how is bullpen is gassed, so he first brings in Strahm (no problem with that move), then he brings in Perdomo to get the last out in the 7th. On 3 pitches. And then takes Perdomo out to go to Munoz in the 8th. Perdomo didn't pitch Tuesday, and they are off tomorrow. Give Perdomo the 8th inning, and save some other arms.

The goal is to develop arms in a variety of situations, Muñoz is probably the most important of the bunch. You're not "saving" any arms at this point.

If it had been up to me, once it became a non-save situation, I would have let Perdomo pitch the 8th as well, and let Munoz pitch the 9th.

Perdomo is a known quantity, Muñoz is on a complicated throwing schedule and it's critical to not waste bullets with a guy like Muñoz. You're thinking in terms of game flow, the organization is in development mode. Baez and Muñoz need as much exposure as possible.

How are you wasting bullets pitching Munoz in the 9th instead of the 8th yesterday? Not trying to argue--just wondering the difference.
