Good, and not at all a surprise.

Seems like they are staying on schedule so far but now the part of buying the land and being able to start construction in early 2020 is up. Would be great if they could hit those because I’d love a new stadium in 2022.

Great, and I hope they will come up with a very unique design that will be able to be expandable for the future when needed. Two years sounds like a very short time for construction. It may get done in 19-21 months. I thought it may take more like two and a half to almost 3 years to complete, but then I am not in construction, or an architect. But, it sounds good.

If they do indeed start building in early 2020, they will have about 30 months to get it finished.

Those buildings lack the similar design of those on the Mesa. It may be SDSU-West, but it still is after all, SDSU. Just my take.

I can't really believe this is all happening.

I don't think the design of the campus buildings will aid in that venture. We will always have THE campus, but in this day and age, synchronicity with industry is needed, so we may lose the aesthetic motif in doing so. A necessity for the growth imo

FWIW, the Gensler family has long ties to San Diego. Art Gensler lives in Rancho Santa Fe and one of his sons was a golf pro at Torrey Pines and lives in Del Sur. I’ve been to a few Aztec games with him.

Regarding additional classroom space, student college debt has reached 1.5 TRILLION dollars. So let's bring in more students to add to the till and create more student debt with the only guarantee, "if you manage to graduate you'll be guaranteed....a degree." Further, create a beautiful campus experience to make spending all that money worthwhile. Not interested.

Presumably we're hoping for private sector involvement, startup incubators, etc. so mostly the former but also a little bit of the latter.

You are right, but since it is a new campus away from the main campus they probably figure they don't need to copy the old "Spanish Mission Style" of much of the main campus. I always liked it, because it is unique. But, with a new venue they may like more modern looking buildings.

Quite a few of the new buildings on campus have a more modern look that I wouldn't call Mission style.

In fact, to me, it now looks like a beautiful campus surrounded by ticky tacky ugliness.

Those images are only a conceptual marketing design by Populous for the election. The actual design of the buildings hasn't been put to paper (or 3D digital in this case). The final look of the buildings might be similar or very different.

The Student Union building is actually one of the newest buildings I thought the did a great job on the design.
