The University sent out a survey a year or so ago asking about how much I'd be willing to pay for various sections in the stadium. I'm not a cheap guy, but the prices they were floating were ridiculous given the mostly low caliber opponents we seem to play every year. I don't remember exact amounts, but coupled with no tailgating, I was resigned that maybe Aztec football would be a memory for me and my friends who go to the games. Here's a partial comparison of our current ticket prices to most of the Mountain West. These prices are for mid-field seats, as close to our club level seats as possible including required donation. SDSU $311-$511 BSU $865 CSU $550-$750 WYO $735 - idiots UNR $675 FSU $526-$1276 UNM $450 - idiots SJSU $295-$775 - idiots UNLV $230-305 This should give us an idea of where our ticket prices are going to be in the new stadium. We'll no longer be near the bottom in ticket prices.
Why would anyone at Wyoming and SJSU pay those prices for those god awful programs...Guess the empty stands means not many idiots...

I remember the exact same price shock when the pricing of seats in Cox, now Viejas, arena came out. Substanially higher then they were at the Sports Arena. Now they don't really seem so bad, excepts for the seats I really want down lower at center court. Well, I'd argue that the basketball team has had a far greater national reach than the football team and far more excitement around the program than the football team. I think the prices for football and the quality of the opponents we play at home is about right. Not at the time that Cox (now Viejas) opened. The first 4 years attendance ranged from a low of 2,618 to a high of 4,528 per game. It was 14 years before we exceeded 8,000 per game for the season. The price increases came immediately, but success of the basketball team took a lot longer.
Since the football program is in much better shape than the basketball team was when the new arena opened, hopefully the local and national excitement and attention will increase much quicker.

College tailgating can happen on the lawns. Tailgating in a parking lot is the worst version of tailgating unless you are bringing an RV. And I took the same survey, prices were affordable, and about the same as the upper-tier MW programs. You have been spoiled by low prices. Guess you don't tailgate...shlepping in tents, coolers, etc is not easy on the trolley.... There aren't many trolleys in the south. Somehow they find a way to tailgate on the lawns. Don't know how they do it...

Tailgating at stadiums with huge asphalt parking lots is dead. That's just a fact, for better or worse... so we all might as well adjust and adapt.
