Jamaal Franklin. Marcus Slaughter. DJ Gay. Those guys all got significantly better while on campus. Franklin and Slaughter left early. DJ had a good senior year I would think that them leaving tomolay pro ball early would count towards them getting better while on campus. Unless the thread was just referring to 4 year players, may have missed that part.

Schakel made some very questionable plays tonight, and found himself in some pretty bad positions. Some of it was because of the zone/not-zone defense, but most of it was just him being out of position. Sad, but he's really not made much progress so far this year - on defense.

For all the horrible prospects for this year's team, I am oddly satisfied that we beat BYU.
That one victory pretty much makes this season palatable to me.
Let's see if we can get it together when the games matter in late February.
That is all. Oh, and also, as both a SDSU & USD grad, it appears "Team Sea World" will fare better than "Team La Mesa" in 2018-19.

This "team" is freaking awful. One of the worst I have seen over the past decade. Virtually unwatchable at this point. Unmotivated, aloof and undiciplined. Pretty much looks like they are taking on the personality of the coaching staff. Looks to me like the coaching staff are letting the inmates run the asylum so to speak. Can't stand to watch these piss poor efforts anymore. This season is virtually over, and the team is playing like they have quit. Pathetic.

Even though his leash will be extended from here to eternity(due to the apathy from the AD towards the athletic programs) Dutcher's seat should be sizzling right now with all of the blowouts his team has suffered so far this season and the obvious downward trend the basketball program is in.

Also forgot to mention we lost both halfs. So lack of effort was the issue.

The sad part is Coach Fisher will be the person to make the call when its time for him to step down. The AD and school president will have zero input unless he is doing something criminally illegal.

3:1 that Palmer and Velasquez blown out at end of the season Are you saying that you don’t like Palmer’s Long Beach St. “dirtbag” defense the Aztecs now run?

This is why my wife and I got up at halftime of CSUN, went to “the bathroom” and never came back to our seats. We missed that 1 good half against a 300+ team but the other 5 since BYU have been an absolute train wreck.

First time in 25 years that I turned off an Aztec BB game and didn't return to it. And that was before the 1st half was even over. Thanks, Dutcher & Company, for taking one of the most enjoyable things in my life and turning it to sh**!

Couldn't watch the game as we were playing a big battle in Dungeons & Dragons. Got home, checked the final score, and instead of being angry... I just chuckled.
Apathy is a defensive mechanism.
Only four more years til Dutcher is gone.

Ugh that sounds painful. Remember, the trips to Long Beach State or Cal or Saint Mary’s and taking over the gym knowing we were going to win. Those were so great! We need Al Faux back!

It's a sinking ship and the players seem to have been the first to go overboard. But the majority of the fans will soon follow. I was one of those faithful <1000 in the late 90's but it's going to be almost impossible to go back to that head space after tasting what winning feels like.

Disagree on Brandon, he may have scored more but, his overall game not so much especially his D.Kell was hurt so, no. X was a transfer. Sky maybe he was consistent but, could never score. Billy? Another maybe. Winston got better on D and maybe assists but O? No! Malik? No. Aerick Sanders and Chase are the ones that come to mind for me. Jamaal Franklin. Marcus Slaughter. DJ Gay. Those guys all got significantly better while on campus. I agree with JP and I would add the obvious, Kawhi Leonard, as well. As far as Malik, it was hard to get a good read on him due to the many injuries he had to come back from. I will say he had a very good senior year considering he took one for the team and played out of position (5 instead of 4) for most of it. IMO, Pope's last game vs. UNLV at Viejas, where he essentially shut down Brandon McCoy, was his best overall game as an Aztec.

It's really interesting to think about how we've watched Cheatum, Pope and now McDaniels play out of position because we didn't have someone for the 5. Now we have Mensah and we're still doing it to our best player. Why the hell would any talented big want to come here?

Reminds me of the Women Basketball team when Beth Burns was let go.. Now they cant win a D1 game with all the facilities and coaches.

I thought it was particularly bad when the TV Announcer talked about the fact that our defense was so bad that our defense (Schakel) was actually behind the three point shooter watching him as he made his shot. He didn't even try to defend. The announcer said that Schakel was clearly out of position and had a good seat to watch the shot. Ziegler was even hard on the team in his article in the paper this morning! I thought it interesting that he said one of the refs uttered “ugly” as he walked by the media table during the game. One or two of the players on this team need to get mad, call a team meeting and air it all out. Show some damn emotion for once!

Now we have Mensah and we're still doing it to our best player. Why the hell would any talented big want to come here? Why would any talented big want to come here, and also - why would any talented forward want to come here to get shoved around in the paint? What was funny was that of those 3 players, Pope was the best (decent) at playing in the paint, yet the coaching staff stuck Zylan in there to suffer until he transferred. At least Malik has the length to contest shots and the strength to not get shoved around under the rim. That being said, Kam should have started (or at least gotten more minutes) last year - Dutch doesn't value bigs. Now we have the goods (a good big man) and we don't even start him. Not to mention our guards don't feed Nathan half the time when he establishes position in the paint. On nights where we shoot 3-21 from 3 point range, it would be really nice to be able to play inside-out and be a more balanced team.

What bothers me to no end is our arrogance and lack of discipline. Our team has NOTHING to be arrogant about. Our pregame strutting, our chirping to the opponents bench by Watson, our technical fouls with NO consequences from our HC, NOT acceptable. How often do we see other teams receive technicals? When Mitchell mouthed off, did our coaching staff do anything? Were their consequences? This pattern had better end soon otherwise our fan base will disappear and our recruits will go elsewhere IMO.
