I just thought of why Cohen is wrong on one point. Obama absolutely DID snub Netanyahu during the latter's recent visit to D.C. Unlike virtually every other leader, plus many people who rank far below the head of state category, Obama did not appear with the Israeli PM before cameras in the Rose Garden for a joint statement. Not THAT is a snub. Netanyahu was treated like the guy who showed up to install a new satellite TV receiver. My guess, and it's nothing more than a guess, is that the following is at work in the President's mind. While I don't think that Obama is an anti-Semite, I do think that he has been infected by the generally anti-Israel attitude that has largely dominated Leftist thinking for the past three or four decades. That thought holds, in part, that Israel bears much (if not all) of the responsibility for the troubles in the Middle East. Never mind that Israel's neighbors, or small anti-Israel groups, have attacked it countless times over the years. What a change in attitude since the 50s and early 60s when sympathy and support for Israel dominated American thought. Perhaps this shift in attitude toward Israel is further evidence of the damage done by the anti-West and anti-American wave that took hold of America's intellectual elite in the late 60s and 70s. On the other hand, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe the whole Middle East situation could be solved if only Israel, since the whole thing is mostly its fault, would come to its senses. AzWm

Very tough issue with no easy or even straight forward answers. The way Obama treated Bebe was completely inappropriate and for that alone, it appears that he has chosen to take more than just a little position against Israel. Who knows what Obama thinks, if he can think without help from his handlers?

Very tough issue with no easy or even straight forward answers. The way Obama treated Bebe was completely inappropriate and for that alone, it appears that he has chosen to take more than just a little position against Israel. Who knows what Obama thinks, if he can think without help from his handlers? I'm sure that the Prez thinks he is thinking. Plenty of us do when in actuality we are just reacting to events per a set of canned reactions that substitute for really serious thought. Someone who really evaluates an important issue from all sides would not believe, as our President apparently does, that publicly leaning toward the Palestinians (to take just one example) would cause them to give up their blood hatred of Israel. However, someone who was weaned on the pap provided by dilettante leftist profs at Columbia or Harvard just might. I am one who believes that Obama's intellectual capacity has been greatly overrated. He's no dummy, that's for sure. But a super intellect? Since he has, in my view, a slightly above average chance of reelection, we must hope and pray that he will start to do some real thinking instead of just trying to ram through a checklist of Leftist nostrums that are popular on the late night bull session circuit in Ivy League universities.
