Yeah, you're right. You wouldn't want the minor league franchise to be overly successful. And you certainly don't want those players to win championships at any level. Besides, why should the Padres care about San Antonio anyway, since the Padres will have a new AA team next season. San Antonio missed the finals by one game last season. Fort Wayne made the MWL championship series last year. But it's just so much more about individual players and development. Colorado is taking over San Antonio next year and the Padres will be in Amarillo. I knew Colorado was going to SA as a AAA franchise, but I didn't know if the Padres had signed a working agreement with Amarillo as yet. Thanks.

El Paso clinches their 4th straight league title. 43-16 in their last 59 games. Luis Urias is hotter than the sun and some of the role players have stepped up at the right times. Fort Wayne swept a doubleheader last night and is knocking on the door.

Still a tough road to get in as they don't play any teams in front of them until the last 3 games. By then it may not matter.

Actually, as it stands right now, they qualify. Lansing qualified in the first half. So Great Lakes and Fort Wayne are the two second half qualifiers. The playoff procedures are quirky, but as of today, they are in. Just need to play well these last few games. Henry Henry re-debuts today after being promoted from Tri-City.

It is goofy how they would get in, but as you say, it is a strange playoff format. Ft Wayne also had a killer loss today, blowing a 4 run lead in the 9th inning.

Yeah, that was brutal to watch unfold. Bullpens are the weak link in the minor leagues as you have a ton of just organizational filler types. Still in good position though. It would be some kind of achievement to make the playoffs for this team considering 2 of their top 3 players are on the DL, two of their top pitchers are on the DL, down to the third or fourth string catcher...Injuries have not been kind to them in the second half.

TinCaps atoning for their sins today, mashing at the plate all night long. 15-5 currently. Gabriel Arias has a cycle, Owen Miller has 4 hits, Esteury Ruiz has a multi-hit game and his 43rd stolen base.

The Chihuahuas meanwhile lose some of their bark with the Urias promotion. Really on Mejia now to help carry the burden.

El Paso is in. San Antonio backed their way into the playoffs. Fort Wayne is in a winner take all showdown tomorrow against West Michigan. Win and they are in. 3 of the 4 affiliates potentially to partake in postseason action.

Do the Padres even have an agreement with a AA franchise for next year? Are they going to be in Amarillo, or elsewhere? Or have they already signed an agreement, and I just missed it? My original statement was incorrect. I thought a deal was in place, but it isn't done. Still no concrete location for the AA affiliate.

Fort Wayne loses via the extra innings rule. They were also the benefit of the extra inning rule in the top of the 10th. The rule sucks.

Nobody benefits from that rule after 140 games. Having the season be decided by that is a travesty for the kids. Still, a ton of growth from guys like Ruiz, Rosario, Patino and a host of others. Going to be one fun Elsinore team to watch next year.

It was their season. The fact it came down to one game like that is a byproduct of the funky rules. Semantics. Either way, it sucks.

El Paso loses 7-5. 15 K's by the Chihuahuas tonight.
San Antonio loses 5-1. 16 K's by the Missions tonight.
Both teams 0-2 in their best-of-5 series, with both facing elimination tomorrow.

El Paso was going to be up against it losing their two best players. Glad they showed some fight tonight behind Ty France.
