That would put The Group of 5 participant at a huge disadvantage. Dumb idea.

One of the reasons pot shouldn't be legal. You could expect some CA coaches to go off the deep end after smoking some reefers now that the Peoples Republic of CA has legalized idiocy.

You can also follow the money trail right back to an extreme Russian nationalist group as well. So don't blame Democrats or 'liberals' for this ridiculousness.

Just think it would be amusing, as all of the electoral votes would disappear and Ds would be unlikely to win another Presidential election, and would lose a substantial amount of House seats. Let's replace Cali with the State of Jefferson, and then admit Puerto Rico to placate the Dems. :-)

So G5's should play 2 games just for a chance to get into the playoff? Horrible idea. Personally I like the 1st part - all 5 P5's get a bid, 1 G5 + 2 wild cards, but I'd add 2 caveats. 1. No more than 2 teams from ANY conference 2. If 2 conference winning G5's are ranked in the season ending top 15 the 2nd team should also get an auto-bid as well. For instance, had SDSU beat USA & CSU and been sitting at 12-1 while West Mich was 13-0 I think both are more deserving than a 9-3 P5 team. SDSU probably leapfrogs WM in that scenario so a 13-0 G5 would be left out whereas 3 B10 teams would be in. There will be years when there are 2 exceptional G5's & that should be reflected in the playoffs. Without a caveat guaranteeing entry I doubt more than 1 ever gets in. And why should the 3rd best team from ANY conference get in? Per the final CFP rankings, Bama, Clemson, OSU, UW & Okie would have been the 5 auto's, and PSU & Michigan the "wildcards", with Wisconsin being the next team out. If you simply add caveat #1 then Michigan & Wisky are excluded and USC would have been the 7th team at 9-3. I'd be OK with that, but IMO if SDSU had been #14 & West M #15 I'd rather see a 13-0 WM over a 9-3 USC (even if USC is probably a much better team). Definitely debatable, but IMO there's too much P5 bias in college tourney's these days.

The best thing for the playoff would to have a underdog/little guy, that is MUCH more compelling TV than Bama/Ohio St./Clemson every year.
The one bowl game everyone remembers in the last 15-20 years was Boise St. beating Oklahoma. The little guy is what makes March Madness great and it can be a huge interest factor in the football playoff system.
