Uhhhh...Jalen is gone after this year. He's gone. Lottery or not he is gone. Maybe. I wonder if Jalen can wait another year to go pro, let the civil suit conclude, file bankruptcy if needed, and then sign a pro contract. No need to sign a pro contract and then immediately cut a big check to settle the civil case.

The civil suit really doesn't help his draft stock, and he doesn't have a great 3pt percentage so far this season (although it is a small sample size at 10/35) - but he might be gone anyways. Tough to say. Let's compare him to Kawhi, a mid first round pick: Kawhi had a similar 3pt shooting percentage trajectory, improving from 20 to 29% Freshman to Sophmore year (Jalen 21 to 28 percent). Jalen has really good efficiency numbers on offense (eFG 55 vs. 47) - better then Kawhi had in college, but worse rebounding (8 vs. 10) and steals (1.1 vs. 1.4) numbers. You would think with Jalen's shooting stroke he would have a better 3pt shooting percentage, although if he made three more 3's this season he's sitting at 37%, so... Similar TOV/AST numbers to Kawhi. Jalen's 7-1 wingspan vs. Kawhi's nutty 7-3 wingspan - Jalen is 6-10 vs Kawhi 6-7. Is Jalen a 3 or 4 in the NBA? Gotta wonder about his frame playing the 4, banging in the paint with guys that have 30 pounds on him. He might be a 3 with a really long wingspan - ala Kawhi - a tweener. Is he quick enough to guard the 3 at the NBA level? If not, can he put on 20-30 pounds of muscle to make it at the 4? That's a question mark to me. I think he profiles as a late first round pick/early second round pick if he goes into the draft. And he probably will - unless him and his brother decide they want to play together in college.

I hope so, one difference between kawhi and McDaniel was kawhi was built and didnt get pushed around. But McDaniel has some special abilities to make mid range weird shots. Would like him to stay one more year and play with his bro. That would be pretty special and a fun experience for the both of them.

Five-star recruit Isaiah Stewart: "I’m not your average recruit," he added. "I could have gone to another school and been just another one of those guys, but I feel like I’m special and I feel like I deserve to go out there and I feel like they deserve a top recruit. I’m going after Jaden McDaniels and we are trying to build something out there."

"Sources have told Rivals.com that the current plan is for McDaniels to finish out his high school season first before making any sort of decision. This would bring us to possibly mid-March before a commitment might be made."
Washington, Kentucky, UCLA mentioned.

This just in: 247sports.com/college/basketball/recruiting/Article/Hoophall-Top-five-recruit-Jaden-McDaniels-talks-finalists-recruiting-128163079/Frankly, it looks like it's down to either UDub and SDSU. UCLA is a mess and is out. Texas and Kentucky too far. But UDub is a serious contender. I'd have them at No. 1, frankly. If I were his advisor, I'd tell him to just go there. But SDSU has a definite shot. In reading the tea leaves, he seems to have the most interest and warm-fuzzies for UDub and SDSU. * * * * * While recruiting is on the backburner, he’s still hearing pitches. The most recent from fellow five-star Isaiah Stewart, who committed to Washington late Sunday night. “I talk to him all the time. He’s just like, ‘come on bro, let’s go to Washington,’ and stuff like that like last night. I just texted him last night congratulations and he was like, “you already know bro where I’m going,’ and he tries to get me to come.” McDaniels said the idea of playing alongside Stewart, a 6-foot-9, 245-pound center, and transfer guard Quade Green certainly intrigues him. “I feel like it would be crazy because they have Quade too so it would be like something they haven’t seen before,” McDaniels said. “I feel like it’s like basically being at home,” he added. “It will be super comfortable there because everyone there I know and just around them all the time so I feel like that would be a good situation.” Here are his thoughts on SDSU, KU and UT: Kentucky: “Yeah, I talk to them all the time. They just shoot me texts all the time like, ‘we’re watching, we would love to have you,’ and stuff like that.” San Diego State: “They’re still in the picture, I’ve been watching them and watching my brother play. It’s just like another comfortable spot where I know everybody. I have good relationships with everybody there.” Texas: “Shaka [Smart], he was at one of my games before we came here and we were just talking saying he would love to have me and just like whenever I can come down or do whatever, come and hang out so.”

It sure sounds like WA is in the driver's seat. I think we'd be the favorite if Jalen was still here but regardless of how he ends the season. there's no way he's coming back to the Mesa next year. Even if he doesn't make the NBA or D-League, he would go overseas.
The only way we get him is if Nathan M continues to improve and it becomes obvious that his presence in the paint makes it much easier for Jalen the rest of the season. Jalen has already played so much better since NM has gotten more playing time. That known commodity may look better to a one-and-done kid rather than playing alongside a true Freshman at Center.

Don’t see a lot of college players leaving for the D-League because it makes very little sense. More eyes on college basketball I’ll be surprised if he leaves, but he has been playing better the past 7 games. The first 11 weren’t impressive

A small part of the whole article: Jaden McDaniels, our No. 1 prospect in the class, was extremely impressive in viewings at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn and at the Tarkanian Classic in Las Vegas last month. And although he faltered to a 4-for-19 shooting performance at Hoophall, it was impossible not to come away impressed with the talent that he displayed even on a cold shooting day. The 6-foot-11 forward has elite-level fluidity, body control, footwork, mobility and coordination, giving him the highest upside of any player in the class in our estimation. He has real guard skills despite playing center for his high school team and has the ability to create his own shot with incredible ease thanks to his polished ballhandling and propensity for playing at different speeds. He's also a willing and unselfish passer with a high basketball IQ, and he should become a good shooter in time. While his skill level is extraordinarily high, McDaniels is most impressive right now on the defensive end. He's rangy, with terrific feet and the ability to cover ground seamlessly. Although his thin frame needs plenty of work, he's a lot more physical than you might expect, playing with good intensity on the ball, showing strong awareness off of it and impressive instincts rebounding, getting in the passing lanes and blocking shots inside the paint. McDaniels will need to become a lot more consistent as a shooter to unlock his full offensive potential, and his frame is still years away from fully filling out. His trajectory is much different than those of his counterparts at the top of this class, though, as he went from Top 100 to top-five status virtually overnight after a terrific spring and summer on the EYBL circuit going into his senior year. There's plenty of reason for optimism that he'll continue to progress moving forward.
