You just don't build top 25 final Eight teams by offering unranked players. What was this coaching staff thinking? Ty Nichols, Adam Seiko's coach, sums it up best, "The guys at San Diego State, when they do evaluations they could care less what anybody else thinks." Reading the UT it is apparent they have been watching Adam since he was a freshman. Easy to go to his games and no one would think they are scouting him with all the other studs in his line up. Also thought his coach thought that they were waiting for SDSU to come after him. Glad we did. Two days ago I was excited about Adam; defense, glue guy, coach needs him on the court, plays for a nationally ranked high school and AAU team, best of all a winner his whole career. Happy last night when he committed.
Wonder if the scouting services start to rank him. Rather have him unranked and laugh in two years at the services. He is an Aztec basketball player.

I will wait and see him play but from what I have read I actually like the kid a lot. We won 34 games with a bunch of unranked players and a superstar SF. Some of our best players to date in the Fisher era were unranked, or just given the standard 3-star/non-top 150 ranking. And to be honest, while good players overall, some of our highest ranked recruits to come in have not been or were not as good as many unranked, under the radar guys we have had in the past.
At the same time, some of our more recent fringe guys have been relegated to the scout team or minimal minutes (LBF, D Williams, Zabo).

Rating services miss guys all the time. Our coaches liking him raises his stock in my book. They not only liked him but were willing to commit to him now.

We could have taken Watson instead of Zabo coming out of high school. Zabo was ranked higher but hasn't played that way.

He was on the bench there. I have my doubts just from his playing time. He was not the right fit for us. Think Dave was the guy on him also. No one hits 1.000. Remember reading a book, The Boy who hit a 1.000, when I was a kid. Only one who did so. Fisher has confidence in himself and his staff. They know what works for them. Sometime it fails. analyze why and move on.

Would not say Adam is the "glue " guy but more similar to other typical Aztecs "high ceiling" guy that will be around for 4 years . Not a star to start out, but steady improvement each year . Also the quote that he loves to play D will get him some PT . Same manner as Dakari ?

Hehe Bagleyk B is an Aztec basketball player. Dude you are an amnature, jus look At the 4 & 5* star players he shut down on D- Jackson, etc.. also check out his shooting from 3 over 40% plus the AAU team and HS team he played with at Serra: the Bagley Brothers, Ira Lee, Cody Riely, .

This post reeks of utter homer-ism. Why would they rank him just because SDSU offered and he committed?

Difference is Malcolm Thomas had established himself as a player at Pepperdine, Billy White was ranked initially I believe by Rivals maybe then changed, Tapley wasn't ranked but I believe part of that was because of a injury. Of course evaluates miss on players, it is impossible to get thousands of legitimate prospects all right, but I'd say Eric Bossi and Josh Gershon both do an excellent job. Of course I'm rooting for this kid like any SDSU player, but I'm not counting on him making a big contribution. If he can fill an off the bench three and D role though, that has value.

I am with you on this one, Fisherville. He may be a good player for the Aztecs. There is a always a risk that a player doesn't develop to the point of being an important contributor. I like the fact that this kid has defended well in high school, junior high, and on the AAU circuit. He has a track record of being able to shoot the three ball. Considering the way that the Aztecs play defense and the way that our opponents traditionally defend us, a 3 and D player is invaluable in our program. We've had a number of strong defenders and a decent number of three point shooters in the past. We've rarely, if ever, had players who did both. If he develops into such a player this acquisition will be a home run.

Someone like JJ O'Brien who does everything well, but seems to go un-noticed since his stats may not jump out at you. He just helps you win games since he doesn't care about his stats and just wants to win games.

His coach also called him his "most valuable player" despite the fact he was the 4th scoring option on the team, which to me at least recalls similar praise from Fish for certain Aztecs of lore.

JJ was noted for his versatility, his basketball IQ, and his willingness to do anything to help his team win.
Seiko's coach stated that he was the guy they could least afford to be on the bench. He stated that he was important to their team's success despite being the 3rd scoring option. He plays hard and plays smart. This doesn't mean that his game will resemble JJ's, or any other Aztec player for that matter. I don't see him playing power forward or defending centers. He has not been asked to be a facilitator on any of his teams. He has hit open shots from the outside at a good clip. So, expecting him to play like JJ or Winston (big time team in high school defended and played with high level talent without being a primary scorer) seems to me to be unreasonable.

Tony Snell was overlooked by most when he was overshadowed by his teammate Kawhi. Snell was a very good college player.

Watson had the rep in HS of being a bit of a ball hog that hadn't devoloped his jumper enough for the trade off to be worth it, but obviously people misevaluated and he has improved in college.
