Dude is absolutely determined to get in the basketball powerhouse conference that is the mountain west. Cute... But no.... Dude is determined to join a team that actually has a chance to play in the tournament and a team that knows how to use players with the same defensive abilities that he has... Im not sure but I bet he has never played in the big boy tournament in March...

If he spent 2-3 years at Wazzu, he hasn't even sniffed the NCAA's MM. Wazzu hasn't been in the tournament picture since Tony Bennett left them for Vahginyah! Wazzu actually made it to the FF in 2008 by winning 2 games and then losing to UNC.

He only played 1 year at WSU (why Ernie was so pissed he left); played 2 seasons at Houston, and played in the NIT. hasn't smelled post season play since 2013, but he's been there & I'm sure he wants to get back.

Sure sounds as though his first priority was to get away from a coach at WSU that he did not get a long with nor did others . Where AD did not have the fortitude to step in . So would guess he wants some place where the coach and players get a long . Seems as though he observed the Aztec team when he was here vacationing ( may like the area ?) and watched the NIT games . Saw that our coaches do appreciate a 5 that plays D and rebounds - two of his stronger traits - Skylar has graduated . So we are looking for a similar player to replace him . Believe he knows he would get more PT at UNLV or maybe Fresno ( if they have a scholarship still available ? ) . Or he could check out Zags or maybe the Texas schools , if he is from the Texas area . Senior season for him so evaluate his priorities and make the correct choice for him ? Would seem we have a lot to offer him but every one is different as to what they want for their last year of college.

Cute, but no. UNLV is a fall back plan. He's verbally expressed his desire to come to SDSU.

Cute, but no. plan A, plan B, plan C... I was taught you never put all your eggs in one basket. SDSU is his #1 option but we have to want him also (no offer yet). The rest are fallback options. UNLV offers mins and a good coach. I don't know their roster but I know there will be some decent options around. I bet he is praying that he gets that offer this weekend.

We wouldn't be bringing him here, at this stage of the game, if we didn't intend on offering. The only way he's not an Aztec IMO is if he a) can't get along with his hosts this weekend (unlikely - good kid from everything I've been told), or b) the coaches being "real" with him about PT leads him to change his mind. In other words, if he's thinking he'd get a chance to start & 20-minutes & the coaches say they're only thinking 10-15 off the bench.
Our coaches loved Sky; they're going to love Valentine as well.
My prediction is May 14th will be Valentines day at SDSU.

He will get 30 mins/game. We need that big rim defender in a bad way. Hopefully he keeps up his 1 block per 7.5 mins.

Believe Dutcher is running point on this. Don't need Fisher here - he's seen enough tape, and the staff wants him. izundu wants to be here. Word has it he would have committed before even coming here. Only open question is whether he gets pressured to visit UNLV or not from his "advisors". My bet is he won't and will be an Aztec shortly.

How many games did he foul out last season?

Believe he actually fouled out of 1 game . He averaged 2.25 fouls in 15 minutes of play. He played against some very good 5's in the PAC - Utah , Washington, CAL , Arizona , Ducks , USC , UCLA.... all had decent guys at the 5 position . Do not know how their D was set up but many times when your guards get beat your 5 has to pick them up and draws fouls. There is no surprise with Valine's stats IF he signs here . No love lost with the coach as guys are heading out at WSU . He is being brought in to help play the 5 , especially because He wants to come here , plays Defense - has stats and style of play similar to Skylar . So he brings experience ( our current front line guys have very little college experience ) , plays D , 3 GPA helps , wants to be here . Grad transfer so 1 and done .
Nolan is being groomed to play the 5 , red shirted last year transitioning from the 4 to 5 position . Nolan's offense is supposed to have a lot of potential but unknown are his skills on D - back bone of SDSU .Zylan would also be learning to play the 5 . We tried but did Not get a 5 from the HS recruiting , top JC 5 went to the Ducks , there are not that many other options out there - some HS guys ? , possible JC freshman .

I wouldn't worry a lot about his foul rate. Our players are coached very well to play tough defense with minimal fouling.
Even Chol, who had serious difficulties with getting called for fouls, improved greatly between his Junior and Senior seasons. So, any problem with foul rate would be addressed by our coaching staff.

If he becomes an Aztec and gives us little more than 5 fouls, I think he is capable of much more, that would help.

Do not know much about the Houston or WSU coaches where Valentine played previously . Do know Aztec coaches are firm believers in teaching proper foot work is key to defending , . Numerous guys do not want to come here because the coaches do spend a considerable time on D and guys know if you do not play D here your PT can be limited . on the other hand , play solid D and you will get PT . Skylar and Dakari were prime examples last year . Part of Malik's extra PT , besides improving his scoring was his play on D and rebounding . Valentine averaged 2 blocks per game in his 15 minutes of play .

True, plus Izundu had a bunch of matadors playing around the perimeter that he had to clean up for. Got him in trouble on occasion. With our team D it'll be much easier on him.
