I don't understand this on either front. 1) If he doesn't want to be there, you want to force him to come back. Yeah, that's really going to help the team chemistry. 2) Now try to recruit and tell a kid "I want to play here, but if things don't work out I'll get all pissy and force you to stay". I remember a few other cases where a guy wanted to transfer and the coaches acted all pissy and restricted it -- all the ones I can think of the coach relented under pressure and the kid ended up going where they wanted to (Memphis kid going to Virginia I think, Wisconsin kid going to Iowa). If kids want to transfer out they should be allowed to do so -- coaches leave whenever they feel like it.

Wow, that's disappointing. Feel for Izundu. Petty move. Would love to hear the details.

There's no way he plays at WSU ever again.

Damn. Izundu said he could provide evidence that there had been no effort to contact SDSU from his end. Wonder if Kent presented evidence to the contrary? "Facilitated by a '3rd party?'" Is that like the second shooter on the grassy knoll? Maybe I should file for provision of said evidence under the Freedom to 'F**k You, Wazzu' Act...

Was the faculty afraid to cross the basketball coach? Did he get a fair hearing? Is there an appeal process? Can we sue Washington State for maligning our good name?

3rd party is no problem as long as that 3rd party has no connection to the Aztecs coaches. This entire effort seems like it was simply to punish the kid. You want to go there? NO!! With what happened late last year (ESPN) and this, one has to wonder if the PAC-12 is working together to do whatever they can to push us down.

From an article around Austin Nichols...his family should call this lawyer. The last sentence seems awfully similar. Article Link

I get why Kent did this but as scouts and AAU coaches say every time it happens it doesn't help you when your recruiting. Also seems like most times it happens that coach is just trying to hold on and gets fired after another season or two.
The SDSU coaches didn't pay for anything. The kid didn't want to be at WSU anymore and found a system that fits him perfectly. It's obvious Kent cares more about his own future than a player he recruited and told him how great his was going to be. Kent couldn't live up to his end and instead of letting that player go to the perfect place to show case his skills he gets pissy.

Besides the obvious of his team sucks and Pullman isn't probably an easy place to recruit to, now recruits know he's going to be an ass if things don't work out. Why would any decent recruit go there?

Do we even play against Washington State next year? I'm guessing not. We're not in their conference either. What a small person their coach is, acting like a child and only thinking of himself

Washington State AD,
I understand your basketball coach has evidence that my coaches tampered with a player of yours. We take this kind of thing very seriously. Can you please provide me that evidence so I can see what further steps I need to take to make sure this kind of behavior receives the proper discipline on our side. Thanks, Jim Stern SDSU AD.

The move in no way benefits Washington State, and though they suck at recruiting could hurt them even more there

Wow, that's disappointing. Feel for Izundu. Petty move. Would love to hear the details. From SDUT tonight. Chris Gaston, who coached Izundu on the Texas AAU club Houston Preps, confirmed Izundu lost the appeals hearing but laughed at the notion there was any illicit behavior. “There obviously was no tampering or anything like that,” Gaston said. “He went out there for spring break, liked the weather and everything. It was an innocent thing. They met a girl from San Diego State or something, and she said, ‘Oh, we have a (basketball) game tonight. You should come.’” Izundu has said he did not receive the tickets from SDSU but from a “friend.”

San Diego State University needs to file a defamation suit against these jerks. This should be done to stop this trend of defaming our program.

San Diego State University needs to file a defamation suit against these jerks. This should be done to stop this trend of defaming our program. This is from the Wazu Blog. I'll reiterate what I said with regards to Kent's decision to block Que Johnson's transfer to at least 23 schools*: This is silliness of the highest order, and it makes Kent look petty. Izundu might not have given four years to WSU as Johnson did, but he gave the Cougs two, and he has his degree -- just let the young man go where he wants to already. You're embarrassing yourself, WSU.

It sounds like he sat with The Show and they were electric that night. Combine that with the paradise weather, hot chicks, acceptability of diverse ethnicities, plus the outstanding social atmosphere around town and it's no wonder he wanted to come.
Ernie Kent is just jealous and bitter that his recruit would leave rainy WA for sunny San Diego.

To play the game, SDSU cannot contact Izundu. But if he wants to come here bad enough, his parents needs to hire an attorney to file a lawsuit against WSU and request that WSU pay for their legal fees.
WSU will reverse their decision at that time. If the family does nothing, SDSU will have to pass and move on.
