Pumphrey's Pursuit of Faulk's Records

I'm not comparing talent or legacy at SDSU, but simply the stats that Pumphrey can leave and the records he can break compared to Faulk.

Faulks average yards per touch: 6.55
Pumphs average yards per touch: 6.49
Pumphrey averages 19.55 touches per game (3 seasons, 40 games)

An average says that it would take 75 touches for Pumphrey to break Faulk's Total yard mark (assuming the ratio is even, he would also pass the rush/rec marks at that point as well).
So, according to the statistics presented, we should see Pumphrey pass these marks 3.8 games into the season, or the 12:00 mark of the 4th quarter @ S. Alabama.

Faulks average touches per TD: 13.7
Pumphrey average touches per TD: 15.6

If the Aztecs play 13 games in '16, Pumphrey should get 17 TDs, passing Faulks record.
If the Aztecs play 14 games in '16, Pumphrey should get 18 TDs

it doesn't matter if you think Pumpf is better/worse than Faulk. He will be the ALL TIME record holder in most categories. That is very impressive and deserves a great deal of respect and recognition.

They both are great, and in their own ways. Marshall was bigger, and faster. Pumphrey is still fast, but quick and smart. I have never seen a RB with his size who was never afraid to go up the middle, and still pack a punch. There is really no way you can compare the two since they are so different, so don't waste your time.

We have been just very fortunate to have two excellent RB's like them here at San Diego State. I look forward to watching Pumphrey break Marshall's records, because even Faulk will tell you that records are made to be broken.

Great numbers, but Lee Corso will still dress up like a clown and suggest some other player for the Heisman. All because at Corso's age he's asleep long before the Aztecs play.

Badfish, great post. It is comforting to know that some of my fellow alumni remained awake in the math and stat classes. Both were and are exciting to watch. Both love the Aztecs.
