There's been a lot of talk about "this generation"'s HS players thinking only of themselves and committing to schools when they're looking for a better offer. But the same goes for college coaches too. An increasing amount of offers are non-committable, meaning the player only gets the scholarship if the team's original target picks some place else to play. This poor guy had offers taken off the table for waiting too long in the recruiting process and is scrambling to find a place to play. He actually cancelled his commitment ceremony (at a HS Bball game he was starting in) because he just learned the school he wanted to go to didn't have any more spots. The knife cuts both ways, that's just the nature of college football recruiting nowadays. Look at the schools he was trying to go to: Boise State, Wazzu, Colorado, even New Mexico State. This stuff happens in a lowly conference like the MWC. He isn't a nobody either; he's ranked is a three star capable of playing WR or CB. John Okwoli is a player, maybe we should be looking at him too. Him coming to SDSU would be a great motivator, given that we play the schools that took away his offers. He'd work 10 times as hard as an average player. www.azcentral.com/story/sports/high-school/recruiting/2016/01/26/north-canyons-okwoli-cancels-college-football-commitment/79380330/

Lets give this kid a shot: espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/player/_/id/178650/john-okwoli

Now that Chapman is looking like the starting QB for the next 3 years is SDSU still thinking of going to the spread? They just won a conference championship with a pro set O. Not so sure about the spread anymore.

in general it is trickle down for both Colleges and Recruits . Higher ranked recruits choose between top ranked schools , mostly P5. . As more of the higher guys make their selection ( even here there is movement) , after each selection there is chain reaction of top schools , then next level of recruits and schools. So first top rated recruits and top schools . Then mid to lower level recruits for P5 schools . They are still preferred by most recruits over G5 - even though it may be just pride/prestige for recruit saying they are going to a P5 school. Then the G5 schools - even here there are levels . But mostly 2 to 3 star guys .
Do hope if the recruit you mention is skilled Aztec coaches are making a push.

At least the schools are saying hey son, we want you but there's another kid ahead of you. Maybe if the kids said I want you but if a Pac 12 offer comes I'm outta here, it would be the same. But the kids don't seem to do that to the school they commit to. It's all about leverage and who has it. If a kid commits early I doubt any school is going to pull the schollie except in the case where a new coaching staff is hired and the old one fired. Even then, I've seen schools stick to their commits.
