On looking at this years commitment list I noticed that 9 out of 22 are OL. I know we need a good OL to make the offense work, but what about all the other positions?? Maybe some of those will be switched to DL??

Recruiting based on need, apparently. We get kids who usually play on both sides of the ball. The Boise St. recruiting style we're following, according to Rocky. Meaning, DB's that play RB/WR, OL that can play DL, TE that can play DE, LB that can play fullback, kickers that can punt....etc.

You need five OL - more spots at that group than anywhere else on the field by far. Two of the nine are Juco's so we will have seven FR OL and two JR OL. We have some holes in the underclass OL ranks that we need to fill. Unlike almost every other position, True and RS Frosh usually can't play immediately so if we lose a couple of guys from the JR and Soph ranks we'd be in trouble.
None of these OL recruits can play DL - no one is fast, or quick enough for how we run our defense.

One is a long snapper so I wouldn't really count him as an OL, more of a specialist. Also, I think a few are iffy academically, so you over-recruit to make sure you get enough.

Getting lineman isn't flashy but they are the foundation for a winning team.

Remember when we had trouble getting quality OLs? Now we need some new LBs. I am getting concerned. But maybe we can get thru 2016 without newbies and focus on that need in 2017

Would not be surprised if ultimately Stanton didn't end up here, Achayo and Greene are JC guys so in different eligibility groups. We need to build depth as our o-line group is kind of messed up when it comes to the college class they are in.

Achayo-JC- is already attending classes and trying out for center . Believe two of the guys also have played DL , so move to DT may not be that difficult after working with Coach Hall for conditioning .
Greene - JC - would be the other immediate help for 2016 . Others red shirt .

Said on twitter he was supposed to make it the that all-star game Lucas Johnson was in, but wasn't on either team's roster. He also was originally supposed to officially visit SDSU last week, but the visit was pushed back until this week. Although on his Twitter, the o-linemen coach Mike Schmidt visited him on Tuesday to discuss his visit (scheduled to start on Thursday). His offer may have been withdrawn with the addition of newer commits.

Wow. Weird remembering how a few years ago the norm was landing 6'4 or 6'5 guys in the 270-290 lb range. A player taller than 6'5 and 300+ lbs was a rare treat. Now, there are FIVE offensive line commits that are at least 6'5 and 300 lbs. Oh ya, and the "smallest" OL commit is 6'4 and 270 lbs (Zachary Thomas). Amazing

CV seems this year is a busy one for you keeping track of the flips and flops of the recruiting . Your list should be at the top of this section . But maybe renamed musical chairs or merry go round .
thank you

Tyler Roemer, the recent commit from Nevada, certainly can/does play Defense. Suggest everyone look at his video....very impressive. Speed, agility, strength are all there. He could be a definite candidate for NT.

I'll say it again, not one of the OL commits will ever play defense for us. Roemer is too slow and not quick enough. Like was said - just watch the tape. If you think he could play DL for us you are out of your mind.

One of the most impressive things about this website is the ability of some posters to accurately diagnose the sanity of others, without ever even meeting them personally.

We need help on both line. At any level have a great QB and both lines is a recipe for success.

A great OL can make your QB and RB look a whole lot better. We need to be a solid 2 deep at each position on the OL. This year we escaped without injuries but a quick look at the depth chart and we were very thin with experienced guys. Next year we'll probably recruit less and more guys for the secondary.

Every year I am surprised at how many recruits never play for the team. And every year we play a P5 team, I see the higher level of penetration by their defense.
If Rocky and staff think we have the players at other positions to allow us to take this many offensive linemen, I am happy.

3 of the OL are over 310 , 6 are not . These weights are before they spend the summer with coach Hall . What size was Heyward at DT this year ,about 310 ? One of them Greene was getting looks from the Tide . With 5 starters on the line team better be 10 deep .
Can we be real we as most G5 schools are looking at mostly 2 to 3 star guys and hoping they have the motor to develop as they progress in the system . Not all guys play .
