While I agree with the argument that Kawhi is lucky he was drafted by the Spurs. And they helped mold him into an offensive player. But, it really is about him as a person first. This article about Jimmy Butler reminds me a bit about Kawhi, but Butler went the opposite way. "It’s important to take a step back and realize where Butler came from. The Bulls drafted him as a rugged wing who’d focus on defense and hustle players and hopefully develop into a reliable spot-up shooter." Jimmy Butler is a stud, and if you've been paying close attention to the NBA for years the Bulls are a mess from the FO on down, their owner cares much more about his baseball team.

Kawhi was actually drafted by the Pacers and traded to the Spurs during the draft. But yes he was lucky that the Spurs viewed him as someone that fit their system and they pulled the trigger to get him.
