Wow. That seems pretty clear, and great to read. We need WVU to beat KSU, plain & simple. It really comes down to whether Foster Farms or the Cactus have to or will take a 5-7 contracted conference team over a 9-4/10-3 team, and Ali Rogers has made it apparent they have no intention of taking a 5-7 team. Hopefully Mr. Communications Manager with the Foster Farms bowl feels exactly the same way. Smart. Thanks for sharing that. I wish I shared your confidence. Rogers got one thing blatantly wrong - a team does not need 6 wins to become bowl eligible, at least not this year. Getting that wrong, I have little confidence that Rogers is correct in asserting or otherwise implying that the Cactus Bowl has any choice in refusing a "bowl eligible" 5 win Big-12 team. I'd much rather see the language in the agreement between the Big-12 and Cactus Bowl. Depends how you read the NCAA's ruling, and how bowls have to work around that? My take is that the 5-7 teams can only be picked AFTER all 6-6+ teams have been assigned. So once all bowls, looking only at the 76 or so 6-6+ teams, pick their teams based on contracts, THEN and ONLY then the 5-7 teams come into play.
By that language then the Cactus and Foster Farms wouldn't see a 5-7 team as "eligible" initially, and since their contracts are filled with those 6-6 teams, they could pick any other team. If they don't find one then & only then would they go with a 5-7 team. That just what I've read on some sights - 5-7 only comes into play after all 6-6 teams placed.
However, we all know bowls are done under the table. They may have to adhere to the BX/B12 if they have a 5-7 team, but that seems to contradict everything the NCAA is saying?
Anyway, agree with you. Would love to see the language of the contract. That said, if the Cactus can fill their bowl solely with 6-6+ teams then they shouldn't have to reserve a spot for 5-7. That's the gray area....
Should know more in next 48 hours I hear...

She wasn't saying that a team needed to be 5-7 or 6-6 to become bowl eligible, she specifically said that the Cactus Bowl (WOULD NOT) choose a 5-7 team over a top placed Mountain West team who is already eligible! jeeez..... Well, actually she said both: She said 1) a 5-7 wouldn't be bowl eligible. Then she said 2) a 5-7 team wouldn't be picked.
Statement 1 is inaccurate now, technically. Hopefully statement 2 overshadows statement 1.

KSU travels well, in order for us to get a bid over them we would be expected to grease their palms.

SDSU guaranteed selling 20K tickets for the 1998 LV Bowl and got it done by bringing in extra staff and telling folks like me how important it was for future bowl appearances where our participation was sketchy. Well, this one might be similarly sketchy so there's no reason for the administration not to go balls to the wall and commit to selling 20K for the chance to play a Pac school in a nice stadium in Phoenix, albeit a baseball stadium.

I'd play in a shoebox if it gave SDSU a chance to beat Oregon in a bowl game. A shoebox has very little running room though, so Oregon might have the advantage. BUT, both teams would definitely stack the BOX.

[/quot My concern is that they will leave us out contract or not siting a "clause" etc. Nothing we could do about it anyways. Its not like SDSU will sue the Cactus bowl.

BUT, both teams would definitely stack the BOX. Oregon is a horrible matchup for the Aztecs. Rocky Long's defense is all about shuttling players in and out to get the best possible match ups. We seem to really struggle against teams that go no huddle, hurry up. not enough time to get in fresh bodies, and not enough time for him to call out plays. The end result is a 3-3-5 that is working with no deception or aggression.

I doubt we would face Oregon in our bowl. Because Cal is out of the question and UCLA played BYU already I'm betting that Cal plays in Vegas against BYU and if we get foster farms or cactus we play UCLA, Wazzu, or Arizona.

I think we would get ASU at home for the Cactus Bowl, would likely sell the most tickets. IMO

The bottom line is the Cactus Bowl wants nothing to do with a 5-7 team and they've publicly stated they would take SDSU "in a heart beat" if available. As it was in the past when 5-7 teams were granted bowl eligibility (yes, it's happened three times before), All (I REPEAT ALL) 6-6+ teams MUST be placed in bowl slots before ANY 5-7 teams can be offered. If KSU losses to WVU they will not be eligible to fill a contracted conference bowl slot before SDSU or any other 6-6+ team and the Cactus will select most likely SDSU (assuming Vegas takes BYU which seems certain). Air Force is likely headed to the Armed Forces Bowl regardless of the outcome on Saturday.
Now, it's certainly possible the wheels could turn behind the scenes (between the Big XII, MWC, ESPN et al.) to orchestrate KSU into the Cactus Bowl by giving SDSU some other bowl slot. Personally I doubt they'd work that hard just get K-State in Phoenix when they'll probably land a bowl game vs. a fellow P-5 anyway.
Of course this Cactus Bowl talk becomes moot if KSU wins Saturday and is 6-6. In that case the Cactus Bowl would be contractually obligated to take KSU or another eligible Big XII team.

Oregon will only be in 1 of 2 places - Alamo, if Stanford wins, and Holiday if Stanford loses to USC.
Foster Farms will be an interesting location. It could be Utah, USC or possibly even WSU.

Cactus Bowl paid out $3.3 MILLION per team last year! SDSU get to keep that or has to share with other MWC teams?

It sure looks that way. If there isn't enough eligible teams to fill all of the bowl slots then the 5-7 teams with the highest apr, one of which is ksu, will become bowl eligible. If the cactus B12 contract states that the cactus must take a B12 bowl eligible team we are screwed
