This is not a very good team right now. I'm not sure they ever will be. Simply can not shoot. Never seen a team that can't inbound the basketball like we couldn't last night. Made some dumb decisions with the ball. We'll be ok in the MWC, not sure we'll win it, but an NCAA bid and any kind of run in it are in serious doubt.

Relax. This is a young and talented team that got rolled by a very good WVU team. They will get better and be ready for March when the wins matter.

Just calling it as it is. Good teams don't get blown out like that. And especially by middle of the road big 12 teams. Which is exactly what WVU is

That loss was from lack of preparation. It all goes back to not being able to beat the pressure and has nothing to do with the players. This one is on the coaches.

I'd much rather the team face adversity now then in league play or in the ncaa. playing/losing to a team like wvu will be more beneficial in the long run when it matters more. the aztecs need to play tougher. wvu played a meaner physical style last night and they punched sdsu in the mouth. I didn't get the feeling that they were a more talented team. they didn't shoot the lights out and jump over any of the aztec players. I didn't see any steph curry crossover step backs or elite passing by wvu. in fact I think over all the aztecs played pretty good D I think it's a good lesson for the aztecs to see how far intensity and toughness gets you. the team is getting tempered right now.

Things I hated about the WV game:
1. Ball movement was at a molasses pace, further evidenced by 2. One (1) assist for our starting PG 3. WV players looked like old men with receding hairlines and wrinkles, not college kids (are they copying YBU?) 4. The refs 5. Multiple failure to even inbound the ball? Seriously?
No excuses for our own inability to handle their relentless pressure. But, these are just fan gripes I hated to see.

On defense, West Virginia was impressive applying intense pressure on practically every person and every second. We could barely get the ball across half-court (if we were lucky to even inbound the ball) without turning it over.
On offense, West Virginia kept getting the ball back missed shot after missed shot.
They were relentless and played a great game. They taught us a lot which will benefit us the rest of the season.
First game goes to West Virginia without question. I hope we get a second one in March

That loss was from lack of preparation. It all goes back to not being able to beat the pressure and has nothing to do with the players. This one is on the coaches. True. But it was the first game they've played without any rest. The announcers mentioned we had played the late game Wednesday, while WV had played in the 2PM game.

But ultimately, the players have seen that type of pressure all through high school. They run sometime type of diamond press and as a inbounder you can't throw the ball to the corners. I don't care how great of a dribbler you are, you need to inbound the ball down the middle. The other thing is Hemsley needs to fight off his guy to make the entry a little easier. Our guys looked tired the entire night and I question their conditioning at this point. Additionally, our guys lack basketball IQ. Anybody inbounding the basketball has to have high basketball IQ. Coach needs to lecture basketball IQ to this guys on a daily basis. Guys missed wide open players because they were dribbling the ball with their heads down. Shepard, Allen, Z and Pope missed a lot of open guys. No more dribbling for them until they can fix some other aspects of their game.

If this was a pick up game at the local court it would have been the weight lifters against the cross country team. The cross country team got dead lifted about 50 x's.

I guarantee you that's why WV coaches brought the pressure immediately, smart coaching. Teachable moment, not worried.

You aren't going to win a lot of games with 13 made FG's total.
They need to rebound a lot better also, all is forgiven if they can take down Kansas (again) though.
Long Beach State on the road is going to be tough the way we are playing right now.

Here's what concerns me: On at least 5 occasions after a made WVU basket, DA and other inbounders failed to run the baseline to create a better angle for inbounding to JH or whomever was accepting the pass...That's the equivalent of a failed center/quarterback exchange and to me not a sign of fatigue, but rather failed preparation of a simple fundamental under duress!

Five games in twelve days, OC games. Its all about preparation for the league season. Its better that we play good teams and lose some right now than to be beating up on inferior teams and then start league play. If you are upset now and think that the world is ending how are you going to feel if we lose a couple more? This is a team in the making. Two freshmen and a sophomore getting big minutes. I haven't seen one team that we have played so far that have any better raw talent. Aztec BB will survive.

On February 23, 2013, Miami beats Duke by 27 points...yet Duke goes on to become an elite 8 team...
Either support your team or go find another team...
When the going gets tough...just amplify your whining...that always seems to work...

This one is on the coaches. 1000%...by the time coaching staff set up extra screen to free up inbound, the blitzkrieg (turnovers followed by 3 ball) had caused irreparable damage. Awful (lack of) adjustment to that spectacular boa constrictor pressure. We'll be OK, though. Not time to hang heads. Gotta get shooters in the groove; just hasn't happened yet (inexplicably)...

I forgot to wonder aloud...how had we not prepared for that pressure? It was as if staff had not seen any film...utterly unprepared...

When the going gets tough...just amplify your whining...that always seems to work... If this team had Duke's pedigree and long history of success, this argument would have more merit. But we don't. If this was one clunker game, you'd shrug your shoulders and look toward the next game. But it's not the first clunker. Or the second. Or even the third. The reality is this team is very ordinary right now and for all the talk of peaking in March, we are fast using up any slack we have to even be playing in March, short of winning the MW. And watching this team play, I'm not sure we have the offense, basketball IQ and maturity to do that. Being realistic about the team has nothing to do with not supporting them. It's just disappointing to see this after being excited about what I thought we'd see this season.
