......got smacked down that bad ? I can't remember the last time SDSU hoops was the victim of such a savage beat down. This game was like the first Ncaa tournament game against Illinois in Chicago.

An embarrassing loss for sure. That's 2 brutal losses in a week albeit in different ways.

We have played a good tough schedule. Fresno State and Colorado State not so much. This will pay dividends later. If you look at the records of the teams we have played(I realize small sample but the teams our opponents have played is pretty good also) and realize we are very young(In my mind this is the youngest team I have ever seen in the last 10 years. No I don't care about Ken Pom ratings or whatever. Its not reality. We have ALOT of youth and inexperience) I am still very happy plus we have played a tough schedule unlike other sports programs. So I am still positive about this team. I am concerned we don't have inside game anymore like Malcolm or Billy or even a Carwell. I would love to have a Carwell on this team with some vestige of an inside game. Not sure why Narain redshirted. He has a bit of bulk and some inside game and CAN SHOOT THE BALL!!!. Chol, Spencer and Pope have had NONE.

He has a bit of bulk and some inside game and CAN SHOOT THE BALL!!!. Chol, Spencer and Pope have had NONE. Spencer had a lot of blocked shots so I suspect you are referring to the offensive side. What you have seen last year and this year is probably what we will get; good inside defense but minimal offense who if he has an easy shot is smart to foul because he is a poor free thrower. So far inside does not appear to be part of Pope's game and his outside game is off target a bit. He is young and talented but if he does not play the inside much it will not be easy to improve. Last year I was fast to jump on the Pope band wagon but now I see many warts in his game. With his talent I believe the warts will get addressed with time but with the lack of inside game effort I suspect it will be one of the last warts. Chol tries on both offense and defense to bring an inside game but it needs some work. He is young and talented so he could get there (hopefully will get there). For this season I think he is our best chance for an offensive inside game. At this point i think the Aztecs are going to need to improve in many areas to win the MWC. I had a start of season predicted 4 conference losses but if we do not play better than we have been we will lose more than 4. Fisher and his staff hopefully will be able to get many of the warts addressed on this team.

Spotty offense makes it hard to come back when the going gets tough.
With a spotty offense, they have to depend on more possessions.
When they give up the ball as many times as they've shown they can this early in the season, it just gives them that many fewer chances to score.
The excessive turnovers are something they can fix, they're something they have to fix - and fast.
Pope? I don't know. At first I thought he was still hurting from an earlier knee injury during practice.
Now, though? He was in position for some DRebs last night, so that helped the team - unfortunately, he turned several of those over.
Lots of his threes just missed. So who knows…

Duke whipped us not even a year ago. We were only down 7 points in the second half against Duke. If we had had Billy and Malcolm we would have won. We don't recruit the Big Men like we used to. Why I don't know. I mean MCJ knew he would be the man here. With him and Narain here we would be great but oh well. Don't get it. Its cold in Oregon.

Keep in mind that we have had a really great run of ten years plus. Few college basketball programs can go indefinitely without a down year. By "down year," I do necessarily mean a sub-.500 season. For the Aztecs, "down year" might be one in which we do not make the NCAA Tournament.
Or, this may not turn out to be a "down year." If the considerable talent on this team can jell, SDSU may again make it past the first Big Dance game, possibly even to the Sweet-16. Still, the team's shortcomings so far are not trivial. Losing at Utah was not disturbing, but losing to Little Rock and then by 22 to West Virginia were eye-openers.
My fingers are crossed.

We had no real answer for Duke the same way we had no answer for West Virginia. The question was the last time we got crushed. Duke bell-to-bell whipped us. I don't give Duke credit for anything that could be debatable. I bet the feeling we felt as fans last night was about the same as watching that game in March. In other words, we have seen this recently, we have felt this recently, and we will learn from it.

Are u kidding, if we had MJ and Lebron we could have kept it close. Here's what concerns me: On at least 5 occasions after a made WVU basket, DA and other inbounders failed to run the baseline to create a better angle for inbounding to JH or whomever was accepting the pass...That's the equivalent of a failed center/quarterback exchange and to me not a sign of fatigue, but rather failed preparation of a simple fundamental under duress!

Perplexing. But although these losses may dog us throughout the season, it's the beginning. This might be the proverbial (or real) rebuilding year. Hope not! Hope it's a GREAT year. Trying to prep myself, though.
