From the little I have seen from UNLV so far, they definitely look a lot more impressive than the teams I have seen from them over the past 4-5 years. They're very long, athletic and attack the rim and rebound at will. Currently watching them double up on #14 ranked Indiana on ESPN 2. Their only weakness thus far is at the free throw line. They're pretty bad there.
Hate to say it, but they are definitely further along in progression than the Aztecs so far early on. Hopefully that all changes by conference play.

They always look good early and have upset Arizona and top ranked North Carolina in the Dave Rice era. They fall apart as the season progresses and until they prove otherwise I have no reason to think this year will be any different with Lloyd Christmas still coaching them.

A win against Indiana, may be the token victory that keeps Dave Rice another season.
SAVE DAVE!

Seems hard to ask that question when we really have no idea how good we are.

They look like a bubble team, Indiana isn't good with a lot of the same issues UNLV has only Indiana has a bit more offensive talent and Crean can't coach a lick of defense. I hope UNLV pulls it out.

UNLV by 4 with 12 min left. Indiana has 16 turnovers to 8 for UNLV.

This definitely looks like a much better team than I am used to seeing from them. They look really good.

They're still very undisciplined and jack up a lot of contested 3s in a halfcourt set. They may very well be better this year, but they also may just be making more of those shots today than usual.
Also, does anybody enjoy listening to Bill Walton do color commentary? I get the SD ties and all, but he's really not interesting, funny, or relevant, though he seems to think he's all 3. Yikes.

UNLV generally recruits better talent than us....but that usually does not translate into better teams or more wins.
If not for undisciplined play they should have beaten UCLA yesterday.

One of their only weaknesses appears to be at the free throw line. Other than that, they look impressive.

UNLV holds on but made awful plays down the stretch, looked like a typical Dave rice team, luckily they were facing tom crean's team.

It was Monday and I agree. We dominated that opening game. Alford went to zone and UNLV looked clueless. Rice didn't have them prepared at all. UNLV went on huge scoring droughts. 10 mins and 5 mins. UCLA made 23-24 FT's and still only won by 2. Rice lost that game. Vegas social media blew up. Wink Adams called out the staff on twitter. UNLV should have beat UCLA.

Correction: Formerly ranked Indiana. They will not be ranked next week after losing two of three and looking bad doing it. 20 TOs?

That wasn't Zimmerman, has been hit with stomach bug. He's been under all week. He only played a few mins and got in foul trouble. Ben Carter, the Oregon transfer and Vegas local, was the one dominating the game. 16 pts and 5 offensive boards.
