The rankings/seedings make no sense. It's a total joke. Mission Hills goes undefeated, destroying just about everyone in their path, and they're seeded 3rd in the Open Division? El Camino is 5-5 and they're ranked third in Division 1 - above a really good 7-3 San Marcos team and above the Vista team that beat them 38-0? (And San Marcos beat Vista, so you'd think they'd be ranked above El Camino for that reason alone.) Not to mention the fact that El Camino lost their last 5 games in a row. Who the hell came up with these seedings? Did they literally just throw darts at a dart board?

Perhaps Mission Hills didn't play as tough of a schedule as seeds 1 and 2. That, and there are too many teams in the playoffs. I wonder if it is a money grab? (not joking)

Here are some links to CIFSDS.org which shed some light on how the power rankings are generated and used to seed the teams: Power rankings, Explanation of points and a search engine to find the power ranking for each team: www.cifsds.org/power-rankings.htmlA video by Commissioner Schnieppe about the power rankings: vimeo.com/108918958All in all the power rankings are more fair and impartial than a committee voting on teams they have never seen play. The power rankings also motivate coaches and athletic directors to schedule strong teams to play in the out of conference games, because one weak sister will cause a team's power ranking to slip.

I just don't think their mathematical formula is as good as it could be. Don't be surprised if Mission Hills runs through the playoffs like a team on a different level from the rest.

The North county schools are "releagueing" next season to enhance the teams' power rankings. the Avocado League will feature Oceanside, Mission Hills, San Marcos, La Costa Canyon, Carlsbad, El Camino and Torrey Pines. Which will make for some great football games. Here is a link to an article written by John Maffei about the new leagues: hs.utpreps.com/news_article/show/575787
