2016 MBB recruit 4* 6'9" 220 lbs. PF Eddie Ekiyor . Had SDSU on his Rivals possible list of schools . Originally from Canada playing at Prep School on the East Coast . Believe Coach Hutson knows of him from AAU CIA Bounce team , same as Zabo and MG-C. Played in the CBYL Showcase first weekend of July in quarter final game made 15 of 21 for 32 points , 10 boards and 5 blocks . Played in the consolation games against Nolan Narain 's team was 13 of 18 for 30 points, 15 boards , 2 blocks . Asked to describe his game: come to play every minute of every game . I try to work hard and do some things other guys may not . I play D , rebound , protect and score near the rim .
Now the thorns . In August he was driving a car hit a bicycle rider ( who happened to be an off duty police officer ) and left the scene of the hit and run accident . Charged with criminal negligence for leaving and not reporting the incident . Injured person was in serious but Not life threatening condition at the hospital . Ekiyor was arrested at his home . Allowed to stay at his home in Canada until court case late August and until he was to go to his Prep School. No further details .
Do Aztec coaches give him a call ? He was also being recruited by Villanova , Vandy , Ducks , ...

SDSU originally showed interest before he blew up, there must have been a reason why they didn't pursue further, whether it was because they didn't like his game, his style of play, or eyikor wasn't interested who knows. As for SDSU? We need 1 center. He doesn't fit the bill. We have a lot of PF options.

We need a guy that wants to play D , rebound , and play close to the rim . ( as he suggested ) at 6 ' 9 " 220 could be a guy similar to Josh Davis , but far better scorer . Key a guy that wants to play physical near the basket . He was interested at one time . Did make major mistake ,yes, but could this be a good place for him and SDSU . A fit / do not know unless we ask and he comes to take a look. Things change very quickly . He could use some guidance and we could use a true PF/C , could play both as did Davis . Narain should know something about him and played against him . Coach H could also get information from his contacts . If the information says major problem then pass but maybe could be a positive move for Ekiyor and the Aztecs .

Eddie needs a fresh start on the west coast in a team is family atmosphere.
This is the next opportunity for the Aztecs to step up and support a lad with a problem; like they did with the Spaniard and Chase T (granted, their problems were injuries).
He made a mistake and panicked. Most of us made plenty of mistakes before fully maturing at the age of 18.

As a juvenile and probably a first time offender they may cut him some slack and not give him "hard time."
Perfect time for the Aztecs to Stand by Their Man and demonstrate their belief and loyalty with a scholly offer---when the rest are likely running away.
What do we have to lose? We got some troubles too.

The biggest impediment to his becoming a student athlete in the United States is his immigration status. Is he going to be able to secure a student visa? I know that an American with a DUI cannot cross the border into Canada on vacation. With his troubles will he even be able to remain in the United States?

He has been playing his HS basketball at New Hampton Prep . Believe he was required to stay near his home in Canada until the court case end of August . Think they were going to let him go back to play his senior year .... But have not found the court's final decision . Due think it would be worth it for our coaches to investigate . Hope our Sherlock Homes should be able to dig some thing up . Coach H and Nolan Narain should also be able to gather some information about him on and off the court .

Xavier... huh. Guess closer to home. Do we know if he was ever a major target for the coaches? Rivals says we did not have an offer, FWIW.
