Here is my email conversation with a mutt co-worker about Jalen........ (Me)oops >>> >>> bleacherreport.com/articles/2564070-jalen-mcdaniels-to-san-di>>> e go-st-aztecs-land-4-star-pf-prospect >>(Him) No sweat off our back... He was a back up plan for us. Washington actually canceled their visit with him a month ago because we grabbed the 5* kid out of DC. >> >> McDaniels is a project kid and won't play a major role for a few years. >> >> Good luck. >> (Me)Starting our pipeline (Him)Yeah federal way high school is a breeding ground. > > Romar is back. Anyone who he wants, he will get from this state. (Me) Cherry or grape.....flavor of the Kool aid you are drinking? (Him) We grabbed baby boy last year, then we just got a big time kid for the '17 class, and we are a leader to land the Jaylan Nowell 5* kid. No cool aid... Real aid! >(Me) If it was a horse race and the mutts were listed in the results they would be an "also ran". Irrelevant (Him) Haha... The huskies are big time now... I can see the reason for your hate. HRYK, and this coming from an anti-mutt Coug. The Huskies did back off him when they signed the PG and they weren't going to sign McDaniel. Another recruit was told the same thing. Their Plan A was to get their JC recruit to come in this January than the following fall, taking their last scholarship for 2015-16. The mutts, and Romar in particular, have been recruiting very, very well of late. As good as McDaniel's is, he was off their radar.
Also, unless he really fills out & matures this year he is seen as a potential RS candidate. Great get, but someone who really needs to develop & may need a year or two before he contributes. You never know when a kid will mature physically & he could hit that mark this year, but it's more likely he'll need a little more time.
As for pipeline, there's never anything wrong with getting a pipeline into Seattle Rotary, which is what this helped to do & IS important. Or could be down the road. That's where the mutt was off. But do agree Federal Way isn't the school that's going to turn big dividends long-term. Rainier Beach, yes. FW, no.

Garfield HS is another potential source of good BB recruits. The sites vary year to year and like the SD recruits they all don't want to stay home! Soggy sneakers are just no fun!

Washington wanted Mcdaniels and did not back off. This is not like cage/AZ.

Washington wanted Mcdaniels and did not back off. This is not like cage/AZ. That's not what I heard directly from the dad of another one of their recruits up in Seattle. Yes, they did back off - they told everyone they were done for '16. They would prefer to get Timmins in sooner or save to add a player like Porter in 2017.
Just what I was told last week, and why I thought McDaniels was ours to lose.

Washington is a .500 team...and will probably finish somewhere in the lower middle of the Pac-12 behind UofA, Utah, UCLA, Cal, and maybe ASU / USC / Stanford / OU...no matter how they spin it...they are still in the 2nd tier in terms of west coast basketball...heck...they aren't even the best team in the state of Washington...

Huskies could have said after they got some recent signing . That they were going to temporarily hold off any more signing until they hear back from other recruits , but are still interested . Or they could do their revolving door with recruits /players.

Don't disagree. Doesn't mean their recruiting hasn't been top notch the last year +. Fultz was an amazing get for 2016. He'll do more for UW than Carson did for ASU.
They'll be among the youngest teams in all of basketball next year, but recruits look at who teams have brought in most recently - who they'll be playing with - more than who's graduating or how they've done just recently, which is why Z, Kell, Hemsley, etc. are so valuable.
Romar's proven he can send guys to the NBA - his recent record wasn't an issue in getting a top 10-15 recruiting class last year.
I think McDaniel will definitely be happier at SDSU than UW, even if it was the team he grew up wanting to play for. The place is depressing!

Yeah, I don't care how good your recruiting is (and they may have very well backed off McDaniel, not arguing with that), when you finish a season 2-11, you are not big time.

Getting recruits and keeping players are mutually exclusive of each other... Romar (like Dave Rice) might be a quality recruiter...but there are three parts of a winning program's personnel... Identifying and acquiring talent Developing talent Keeping talent Coach Fisher has shown that he (and his coaches) are able to do all of the above with consistency.I'm not so impressed with what Romar has done at UDub...at least thus far...

This is incorrect. They backed off McLaughlin, but still wanted Jalen, romar pushed hard for a visit.

they were wise to back-off. I'm sure they were aware of the Howard connection.

these are the recruiting wars . A lot of mis information from all concerned as each school is trying to land the best recruits they can , sometimes not exactly telling all the real story . There is so much out there , plus coaches can not comment until after NLI week . Coaches and recruits both try to do what is best for them. He said they said .... and all that really matters is who lands where.

Can we agree major need for 2016 is an additional PF/C , before we break out the bubbly to celebrate. We lose both guys that play the 5, this year SS/AC. So we need 2 guys to replace them. We have added Narain , who will get loads of quality practice going against Skylar, Angelo, Winston , Malik , Zylan and time in the weight room . Even if he is going to be a 5 we need another. J.McDaniels needs to work on both his skills and frame during his last year in HS , sure sounds as though he prefers to play away from the basket as a 4 , unless coaches go over where he could get more PT So Cage will be a vey important to sign and that is not a done deal . If not then a grad transfer, or work Max there he has solid frame, yes he also prefers to be an outside shooter . Some are saying Zylan ,maybe as a reserve there .
So we need to add another PF/C , hold scholarship for grad transfer ,or 2017 PF/C . There are 11 out of the top 20 players in the 2017 class that are PF/C .
Celebrate after we know who we sign NLI week .

so are you ready to celebrate now ? Even if we do not sign Cage , Stanback or Leaf? Two months before NLI week is over ? What do you see as the basic for calling the team having a very successful season. ? What level in MM ?
