From Scout.com
"Steve Fisher and Brian Dutcher are legendary coaches. I really like the team and coaches."
McDaniels' first and only official visit was to San Diego State and his time in SoCal made a big impression on him.
"When I went on my visit I already knew they were good but I was focused on meeting the players," he said. "They were like family to me; it seemed like I knew them forever. They were all really cool." The San Diego State coaches did a good job making McDaniels feel comfortable with them.
"My cousin is Juwan Howard and he was coached by [Fisher and Dutcher]," said McDaniels. "He told me straight up, they're going to push me and be like family and going away from home, I needed coaches and players who would be like family to me.

Think Aerick Sanders folks...but McDaniels seems to be more coordinated coming out of high school.

Excellent news! Always great to beat Pac-12 teams on the recruiting trail.
Cage, Stanback, or Leaf would work well also for 2016
(And another Top 100 player at SG for good measure)

Jalen stated SDSU is "lit" and took only 10 days to do a verbal. As for the JAM Center " Build It and They Will Come!" Welcome to SDSU Jalen!

My memory is fuzzy, but didn't he commit to us earlier? Or is this the 2nd recruit out of the Seattle area for us?

There's a few Jack Daniels threads swirling around AztecMesa right now, so no wonder the fuzzy memory. Keith Smith was the first guy from Seattle that committed, then switched to Oregon.

Or is this the 2nd recruit out of the Seattle area for us? www.sandiegouniontribune.com/news/2015/sep/09/sdsu-basketball-jalen-mcdaniels-recruit-commit/"Keith Smith is a 6-7 wing from Seattle and one of his closest friends. He committed to SDSU last February, then decommitted in April and chose Oregon instead. “He was like, ‘This would be a good fit for you,’” McDaniels said by phone Thursday night, shortly after the SDSU coaches had completed a home visit. “He encouraged me to go there. People might think he would say San Diego State is a bad school because he decommitted. But it wasn’t like that. He never talked down on them." Oldie Out

Ah thanks for the reminder. It was Smith who committed really early to us. I didn't realize he decommitted.

IMO, this is probably related to how the coaching staff handled the situation when Smith decommitted. People here were pissed off and I'm sure the coaching staff was really disappointed, but they must have handled it with grace and class because it didn't leave Smith with bitter feelings.

Here is my email conversation with a mutt co-worker about Jalen........ (Me)oops >>> >>> bleacherreport.com/articles/2564070-jalen-mcdaniels-to-san-di>>> e go-st-aztecs-land-4-star-pf-prospect >>(Him) No sweat off our back... He was a back up plan for us. Washington actually canceled their visit with him a month ago because we grabbed the 5* kid out of DC. >> >> McDaniels is a project kid and won't play a major role for a few years. >> >> Good luck. >> (Me)Starting our pipeline (Him)Yeah federal way high school is a breeding ground. > > Romar is back. Anyone who he wants, he will get from this state. (Me) Cherry or grape.....flavor of the Kool aid you are drinking? (Him) We grabbed baby boy last year, then we just got a big time kid for the '17 class, and we are a leader to land the Jaylan Nowell 5* kid. No cool aid... Real aid! >(Me) If it was a horse race and the mutts were listed in the results they would be an "also ran". Irrelevant (Him) Haha... The huskies are big time now... I can see the reason for your hate.
