Vista 61 Paloma Valley 7
That's right. Vista beat Paloma Valley (from Riverside County, a regular playoff team with winning records for the last several years) 61-7.
It was 34-0 after the first quarter, 55-7 at half, and with the running clock in the 2nd half the final score was 61-7.
Coach Dan Williams told me that he made the executive decision to return to the Panthers old offensive playbook, going away from what they have been doing for the last 3 years or so. It worked. Big time. The players were excited by the change and wanted to prove that last week's game wasn't representative of who this team is. They played with intensity and a collective chip on their shoulder. We'll find out next week if it was just a one off result (because of Paloma's inexperience defending that kind of attack), or if the Panthers really are back on track.
The Panthers showed an extremely effective running game with Cesar Mariscal and Brandon Price leading the way. QB J.T. Trevino was very effective with the new/old offense and was a true team leader.
It was a fun game if you were a Panther fan. For Wildcat fans it was pretty brutal.
