The only thing I really don't like about the new unis is there's no SD logo on the side of the helmet. The side of the helmet is the prime spot for identifying the team. When a photo of this appears no one will know it's San Diego State. Not crazy about the wide black stripe either. The is an SD logo on the back of the helmet but no one looks there and it gets lost with all the other stickers back there like the MWC logo, flag and helmet warning paragraph. The calendar looks nice but won't be visible from more than three feet away. The rest of the uniform is OK. I hope the red numbers will stand out enough against the black jersey. I think it'd be pretty cool if the Aztec Calendar became synonymous with SDSU, kinda like the silver helmets with stickers is with Ohio State and the golden helmet is with Notre Dame. Obviously we would have to build a recognizable winning culture around it, but we don't NEED to have the SD logo to let people know that these are our own. Exactly, the calendar could be how everyone knows it is SDSU. I also agree that the black stripe is a little too much but overall the whole uniform is money.

To win in football, you must be progressive, you must move forward.

Check out Mexico's IFA uni's for comparison: "Mexican linebacker Payeròn Valero Roberto Pablo lines up against France. The colorful scales on the helmet and the green scales on the jersey and pants represent the Aztec feathered serpent god Quetzelcoatl. On the jersey’s right shoulder is Aztec god of war Huitzilopochtli. On the left shoulder is god of rain Tlaloc, who brought thunder." Oldie Out

I'm sorry to cast a negative opinion but after all I'm AF1 and my opinion matters? So as much as I like the employment of Aztec calendar on the jerseys the helmets are just wrong. The black stripe negates the calendar on the helmet and they have pasted a small SD logo on the back which look a decal afterthought. Busy and not attractive. SD or DS?

I may have missed something here, but is this the alternate uni to "attract recruits" or the actual home uni? Does the away uni have the Aztec Calendar too? Is the Aztec Calendar going to be part of all the sport teams unis?
Nike's uni contract with the Aztecs ends this year, so I guess they had to do something with the Aztecs to keep them from going to Under Armour.
I don't like it because the Aztecs did have a classic traditional uni that rarely changed. Usually mid major teams like the Aztecs do gimmicks like wacky unis to try and "attract recruits", but the Aztecs never did that and stuck with tradition. Unique all black home unis before all black "alternate" unis were cool.
BTW, I see a Mexican "student" group on campus saying how having the Aztec Calendar on a uni is portrayed as "racist". Get ready for this.

As for your mid major team comment, I'm sure those lame Ducks are really suffering. We needed a change and this was a HUGE step in the right direction.

Get ready for this. I'd say more P5 teams do it than mid majors. Oklahoma State, Oregon, Ohio State, Baylor, Oregon State, etc. These are our actual home & away uniforms, not an alternate BTW. I dont think that DS (SD) logo was a traditional Aztec uni. I thought it was pretty ugly. If you want traditional Aztec uni, then go with the brighter red helmets that say Aztecs on them like in the 80's/90's (which I would be fine with, I loved our uni's in the 90's). I love these uniforms though

His quotes should've been around the word "Mexican" instead of students since the people really pushing for the change aren't even of Mexican heritage!

As for your mid major team comment, I'm sure those lame Ducks are really suffering. We needed a change and this was a HUGE step in the right direction. I will piggyback on this...the previous classic look may have been a vintage idea but honestly, SDSU never seemed to get that traditional look 'right'. At least not on the same level as a UCLA or USC with their traditional looks. SDSU has plainly spoken about how this look was 2 years in the making. So, the last two years uniforms with the traditional stripes were really just a template that we've all seen at other programs, even on the JC or HS level. This new design is completely custom and unique to SDSU's program, and the addition of the Aztec Calendar is both historically accurate and not offensive. Many have already posted here of Mexican national teams that have used the same type of graphics to their uniforms. I believe any opposition would be squashed pretty quickly.

One interesting fact, the uniforms were designed by an AztecTalker. I don't know if he is here on the Mesa under a different screen name but thought it was an interesting connection. Perhaps the myriad uniform threads had bearing on this...

Welcome to the 2010s uniform game, Aztecs! It's about time! But what's with the calendar theme? The number of days/years Aztecs football has been nationally irrelevant?
