On the 4th of July I just wanted to say .......... Boy, am I proud to be an American! A heart-felt thanks to all who have served (and to all who supported them).
Admin ... move this if you need to; I just felt it should be front and center on our board.

Just saw the 1972 move, 1776, about the events in the Continental Congress leading up to the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The movie is a mixed bag, alternating heated, dramatic scenes of the Congress at work with rather incongruous singing and dancing routines (made me think a bit of Springtime for Hitler. . . had to mention that so those who are keeping count can increment my total!). All in all, reminds us of what those men in Philadelphia were facing (being hanged by the King the most ominous prospect), and how much we owe to Jefferson, Adams, Franklin, Hancock, and the others. When the clerk announced that it was time to sign the Declaration, he started to say ". . . of the United Colonies." then corrected himself and said ".. the United States of America." That may be apocryphal, but it pretty much made me choke up. Historically ihteresting and a pleasant change of pace in opposition to the calumny heaped on this country by some people on an almost daily basis. (I'd be remiss if I did not remind everyone that we just passed the 800th anniversary of Magna Carta, a document that helped pave to way to our Declaration of Independence and Constitution: www.bl.uk/magna-carta/articles/magna-carta-english-translation)AzWm

Happy Birthday America -- land of the free and home of the brave! Or, as I like to say, Land of the free because of the brave.

That's my crew! SVO baby! This post took me back to 1972 when I first set foot on the SDSU campus after 2 years & 4 months in the A. F. There were no campus veterans groups. I did talk to a SDSU class counselor who advised me not to tell anyone that I was a vet unless I absolutely had to as it would make my time at SDSU a better experience. My how times have changed. I don't mean this as sour grapes, but just to show the contrast in attitudes.

I was on leave in 1970 and was told not to wear my uniform in public because of all the anti-military bitterness that was so prevalent back then. It's nice to see our men in uniform properly honored.
