Is Kawhi in the same position as LeBron? Sign one-year contracts for max... until new TV dollars come into play (2017?) for mega-contract?

Is it proper to wonder what he will give back to the Aztecs? I am selfish!

When you're labeled the "King Killer", you should be paid accordingly.

one yearh deal is not a good plan. It will help the team but might not help him, if he gets hurt or something. You only have a few opportunities to sign long term max deals (with guaranteed money) in your career. You have to do it when you can.

You only have a few opportunities to sign long term max deals (with guaranteed money) in your career. You have to do it when you can. Except by signing a 1-year deal he could significantly increase his long-term income, given the expected major rise in the salary cap. A lot of guys are signing 1 year deals these days, and you can do it like LeBron/Love & others & have an opt-out clause. So he could sign a 2-3 year contract with a player option to opt-out after 1 year, when the salary cap increases. If he gets hurt, he doesn't have to opt-out. If he doesn't get hurt, and thinks SA could increase his pay, then he would opt out.
I get the feeling KL is happy in San Antonio & isn't about just getting the benjamins, but I'm sure his agent is....
From a team perspective I wouldn't want to have to keep negotiating every year with all these opt-out clauses, but appears to be the way of the land these days.

First of all Kawhi cannot take any 1 year deal except the small qualifying offer with SA. I believe the smallest deal he can sign is three years. So the whole jimmy butler going to sign 1 year deal with LA was BS and illegal. I fully expect Kawhi to sign 5 year max deal with 4 year opt out with SA after SA is done chasing othee teams fa's, this way they can go over cap to sign him. He isn't signing a offer sheet with another team. I think he'll take the long term security.

You only have a few opportunities to sign long term max deals (with guaranteed money) in your career. You have to do it when you can. One year deals for top players/contracts actually hurt the team. It takes out a big chunk of the salary cap for that year. Long term deals actually help the team. There are so many ways you can "hide" the money in terms of preventing it from being cap eligible. You spread it out and compensate in ways that will not have an affect on the cap. But with one year deals for top earners, you are using a big chunk of the team cap. 100% of the compensation hits the cap.

Who cares? Is he going to donate to SDSU that is all that matters. If people are expecting him to donate, then I truly hope he doesn't. Pretty pathetic.
