Correction, this weekends Seattle Trip was an unofficial visit. Official/Unofficial, not good for SDSU no matter how they classify it! Romar is just a great car salesman, his teams may not play up to expectations but he sure can do the "Pied Piper" thing and pull the recruits in! Good bye Romar, Hello Norris stay home and star for the Aztecs.

Still don't think he's coming here but look where he's at. Also I found this write up about Norris. His ranking may be steady nationally, but he's dropped in regards to his outlook here in SD and on the west coast. It's pretty unanimous that Cherry has surpassed him as the best in the junior class in San Diego. Joel's Take: Norris has the frame (long and broad) and athleticism to garner High Major Division 1 attention. However, other than a few active moments versus Cal Supreme, his all-around game needs to improve to play at the High Major college level. Strength, assertiveness, and balance (plays too straight up) need attention to take game to another level. www.westcoastelitebasketball.com/news_article/show/780352?referrer_id=1587082

Romar staying in touch with Norris. I know that Norris and Cherry are going to the PAC or Zags, but still have some unreal hope.

I used to be excited about our recruiting process but now I just hesitate to invest any enthusiasm for it when I see who we're recruiting against. The lack of any apparent movement on this front also makes me less and less inclined to even stay interested in yet another recruit who is going elsewhere. If we got Norris it would be wonderful but it seems like the local kids just put that on their list as an extreme fall back position. At some point it can't just be that kids "want to get away from home", it has to be the coaching staff. If Musselman can keep getting very good HS and Div 1 transfers into freakin' Reno, then something is really lacking in this staff's ability to recruit to a place like San Diego. I know it's not just the beach, girls and weather but it just seems like we don't even get to take advantage of those positives. It's got to be kids not trusting our system for their particular talents.

I know it's not just the beach, girls and weather but it just seems like we don't even get to take advantage of those positives. It's got to be kids not trusting our system for their particular talents. Or, you know, the fact that no matter how bad we think we're a big dog... we aren't. Sure it has been a year or two since we've had a big signing, but remember, for example, the surprise Shepard signing the day after we got rolled by UNM WITH Winston in attendance? Remember Zylan being given up on because he was UNM bound and then he trolled an entire fan base? Don't forget that on this squad are huge gets that are still unknown like Narain (consensus 4 star), Jalen (who we haven't even seen play yet (consensus 4 star and top 100 recruit), and Schakel (freshman 4 star). We have a 5 star ESPN recruit/41st overall in Montaque G-C. All is not lost on the recruiting front. Yes, for the last 18 months we have missed on BIG names. But that comes with the territory of competing with true blue bloods. If we want UA and Oregon and UCLA caliber players, we have to be realistic in accepting a fair number will indeed go to UA and Oregon and UCLA. Add to that our best recruiter being poached by USC (and taking a roster's worth of talent in SDSU recruits/leans with him), and a bogus hitjob non-investigation investigation steering away the likes of MJ Cage, Leaf, and Smart... and you see what has happened in the very recent past. And again, before the We Suck Again Police gets their panties in the twist - we are in trouble with the current roster situation when it comes to defending talented post players. We have no true post players. We have little in the way of true bigs. We will lose games because we don't have a post presence. But to chalk that up to a system(?) or a staff(?) or whatever is, at best, only marginally true. It isn't easy to grab 7' athletic big men who can run the court and love to play D... how many of those realistically exist every year? Five? Ten? Sure, we could offer every 7' dude that has picked up a basketball in the last five years, but in practice what would that accomplish? By all measures, Izundu was someone this board would be over the moon to grab this offseason, but did he really have a huge impact this year? I mean, according to many on this board the season was a failure because we missed the tournament... so how did grabbing a semi-serviceable big man really work out after all? EVERYONE is holding their breath about our recruiting. We're in flux. Coaching change, renewed powers challenging us for recruits on the west coast, drop off in postseason success, unfounded allegations about recruiting violations, MW dropping off, etc. These are challenges. But there hasn't been some monumental shift in landscape just because we have seven psotters on AztecMesa who like to talk sky-is-falling $#!+ more than they like sex. And when it comes down to it, what have our best recruiting classes - in terms of hype, stars, ratings, whatever - gotten us? Two years in a row with disappointing results. So, I dunno. Just relaaaax... Are any of us going to stop being fans if we have another year like last? I know I won't. And as a practical matter, who have we missed out on that would dramatically change our fortunes next season? Top 10 overall, one and done Center McCoy? Sure, but you're going to say there's something wrong with us because we can't close McCoy? C'mon man. Was Hamdy-Mo going to win us games? Sure he might have helped some Aztec diehards sleep at night, but c'mon man, his 10 MPG wouldn'ta done jack for us. Rooks would be nice. Some Deshawn Stephens-like unknown would be dope. Some late TBD grad-transfer who would come play 30 minutes a game and give us 10 and 10 would be awesome. But, what exactly is it that everyone is mad about that happened THIS year? Not past misfires catching up with us, but THIS year? Some perspective and a dose of reality would do everyone a whole heap of good. And who knows... A 23-11 team (and 9-7 in conference), with less talent than we have now took us to our last Sweet 16. You think 15-16's 16-2 MW squad was worse than that? And if you don't buy it, fine. I get it, really I do. But the endless dread has gooooot to fckiiiinnnng goooooo. What's the point? No, seriously, what's the point? We're all better (or should be, anyway...) than whining and dreading some outcome that may or may not happen, six months from now, from an unknown team with an unknown coach who we're supposed to be supporting. Man the F up.

Man the F up. I agree with you overall. Not to nit-pick but I believe the last sweet 16 team was the Thames & Josh Davis led team that went 31-6 or something of the sort. The 23-11 (9-7) Jamaal Franklin led team got bounced in the round of 32 by Fla Gulf Coast I believe

He may not be an Aztec but spends a lot of time in the JAM CENTER. He'll always be an Aztec at heart... at 6'8" and 170 lbs.
