I'm actually going to be in the Philippines during that time. I'm going to have to bring my SDSU swag see if I can catch one of his games. Can't wait! - Bart Scott Imagine the surprise he'll have seeing you in gear and break into "I...Believe...." Then make a big head sign of him or a "WINS TONS" and wave it!

I'm willing to bet Winston will reference this trip as a life changing experience sometime in the near future.

How thankful are we now that Winston is coming back to SDSU for his senior year , compared to some recruits ,who are really having head case issues BJ .

As per the AIA website, this visit was meant to garner personal growth/cultural experience in addition to basketball competition. As someone who is currently visiting the Philippines, it's hard not to be sympathetic to the plight of the people here. Poverty is everywhere. Anything from the US is embraced with open arms. No doubt Winston along with his teammates are feeling the love from the people here. His perspective and growth as a person cannot be measured or quantified. Winston will return a better person than he already is. While I'm on the subject of Winston, he may have done things in the past that have raised the ire of other fan bases. But for the life of me, I can't think of an incident that has occurred in the last few years. Shep has done nothing but grown as a person, a leader, and a player. All hail Wins Tons!
Can't wait! - Bart Scott

This year could be a good season for Winston . Malik has so much publicity and high expectations, projected to be an NBA draft choice. JH is the PG that the Aztecs really need so he will be watched closely and every one has very high thoughts for Zylan . So maybe Winston can relax and just do his thing and do the variety of things that make him a vey valuable player . Winston could also be co captain with Skylar and Angelo . But we can guess who will be the verbal leader . Relax , have fun and enjoy his senior season.

he wants a break from basketball. on this break he will be playing basketball. makes sense. I thought the same thing....then realized he must have meant a break from the usual scene and try something akin to a mini-vacation. Hope that 4 day camp teaches him how to shoot! (Slight dig, but joking mostly.....I do wish he developed a reliable jumper and strong moves around the hoop). With his God given body perfect for basketball I would like to see a "beast-mode" arise from his game. He can take over a game once he decides to. I expect Sheps last year to be his best. Good luck Winston!

He's slowly becoming one of my favorite Aztecs of all-time on the court. Most of it has to do with how well he's handled himself after his freshman season. College has matured him and I'm sure this trip enriched him for the rest of his life. I see a lot of Brandon Heath in him as far as college maturing him. Granted Heath's issue was confidence while Shep's was immaturity. But, the strides they made are both huge leaps. I could easily see this guy one day on TV as a talking head for college hoops when his playing days are done.
I'm still gonna bitch and moan every time he does that weak-a$$ Euro-step or finger rolls it. :-)

Shepard in the Philippines via SDUT:
"Midway through an exhibition tour of the Philippines with an Athletes in Action team, SDSU senior-to-be Winston Shepard has posted some impressive numbers. Through four games, the 6-8 wing is averaging 14.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 3.8 assists for AIA. He was named player of the game in a win against Blackwater Elite.
The two-week tour continues through Aug. 10, with four more games. In addition to playing, the AIA roster of Div. I college players has visited hospitals, youth groups and a prison as part of a busy schedule of community outreach."
Hoping that Winston can deliver the same numbers for the Aztecs this Fall, even 14, 7 & 3 would be nice.
