Jeff Goodman talks about 60 college programs who will be traveling outside the US this summer. They can have up to 10 practices as well as the games they play on the trip. That's a lot of teams traveling. Does anyone know if Fish has considered this? Does it have to be funded from donations? espn.go.com/blog/jeff-goodman/insider/post?id=5028

Does Provo, UT count? It's pretty foreign to me.

You're allowed to do them every 4 years, and you get 10 practices prior to going (unless it's world games). If you can book a late trip AND get your FR to complete a summer school course that gives them a chance to participate. Otherwise FR can't. That'd be huge with any FR PG, that's for sure. But it also depends where you go as well. Some areas give you a lot better competition, while others you're lucky to get JC-level comp.
I do remember seeing a 4 year study which looked at something like 30 teams who took international trips over a 3-4 year period, and something like 60% increased the # of victories from the prior year, 30% declined, and 10% stayed about the same. Overall, those 30 or so teams improved by 2 games on average. Of course a lot of other factors come into play (e.g. would they have been better ANYWAY).
But to me the additional practice time, the benefits in recruiting, and simply the bonding experience makes it worth the cash outlay, if you have the money.
Then again, was it Fisher or just his team at Michigan that said they hated their international trip?? I do know of 1 team who went to Australia because their star player was from there & they all said it was an incredible experience, yet they ended up having a lousy season....
With Narain maybe we book a Canadian trip in a couple years?

I can confirm directly from Coach Fisher...no foreign trip on his watch. Watch the Fab Five show again to understand his feelings. I'll bet that will change under Coach Dutcher. Just a guess on my part.

Unless you are Kentucky, and swing major recruits by saying you are playing the national teams, I don't see the point of it. Cost-prohibitive, and for bonding or recruiting? Much better ways to win at that. Our 10-11 team stayed in Frat Row my freshmen year (09-10), they turned out fine

It was the team. Juwan, Jalen, etc. They talk about it on the Fab Five documentary how they hated the trip and didn't want to go to Europe.
