MadMax has now visited and Mr. Aaron is about to arrive. Do these guys go to the gym with the current players to test their games vs. each other? If so, would the Aztec players provide some evaluation to the coaches as to playing style and personality fit? Can the coaches observe?

don't think recruiting works the same way draft evaluation does.

Believe the guys are in the last part of finals this week . Would guess the guys might drop in and talk with recruits or even take some shots , if they have time and see what the chemistry is . Also as Coach Fisher has pointed out now a days the recruits ask the current players a lot of questions about what it is really like to play at SDSU . Narain chatted with Zabo and others .

A visit is not a time for the staff to evaluate a recruit... it is the opportunity for a recruit to evaluate a staff, team, university, etc.

A visit is not a time for the staff to evaluate a recruit... it is the opportunity for a recruit to evaluate a staff, team, university, etc. I think it's 50-50. The staff has to determine if the kid's character is a good fit with the rest of the team and you get a MUCH better gauge on that not necessarily during the interviews/talks/meetings, but when the recruit is hanging out with his host player(s), etc. So some player feedback is warranted, but it goes both ways.
As someone said, believe this week is finals but by Friday I'd assume the guys would be pretty excited & would hang with Aaron; show him the local places.
A lot of recruits have been derailed on recruiting trips by making poor decisions, just like many recruits have been turned off by the fact their hosts weren't who they wanted to hang around. As Fish has said, the players are the best recruiters.
To answer the original question, very often the players will play pickup games with the recruit if the situation allows for it. But, for the most part, its not like the coaches will ask those who played with the recruit if he's good enough. They already know he's good enough or they wouldn't have brought him in for a visit.
I'll bet half the guys on our team have played with and/or against Aaron already, whether when we originally recruited him, or during shoe ball tournaments. Playing a pick-up game or two with him now would be about making it fun for him, and showing him he can hang with this group of teammates.
