OAT was THE outdoor venue in San Diego during my time at SDSU and into the early 90's. My first year and a half at school I lived in the College West apartments on 55th Street - we used to walk over with our beach chairs and refreshments and sit on the lawn. Inside I saw George Benson (amazing jazz musician), Kenny Loggins (pre and post Danger Zone), and Don Henley solo (the first concert I ever saw was the Eagles in 1976 at the Sports Arena, it was the first date of the Hotel California Tour, the San Diego Chicken got up and jammed with Joe Walsh on 'Already Gone' - tickets were $7.50 each for seats two rows off the floor). Life sure was simpler - and more affordable - back then. kman out

A lot of great groups passed through the OAT back in the day.
I'm still scarred from when Big Audio Dynamite had to cancel in the late 80's because Mick Jones (presumably) had laryngitis. One of my favorite bands of all time and never got to see them in concert.

Saw a few bands in the 80's, only remember The Cure in the late 80's and Thompson Twins earlier, both at OAT.
Also, Howard Jones. His publicist passed out a flyer when we were in line telling us how punk rock Howard was.
