They can pull in all the five star recruits they want. But until they actually do something with all that talent, color me unimpressed. I'll take our 3 and 4 star guys who want to work and buy in to the system we have here over the "roll the ball out on the court and hope the five stars can do something with it" coaching style of Dave Rice any day of the year.

And by the way, our 4-star starting point guard next year is the Truth!

Maybe UNLV will give SDSU a run this year. Coach Rice is killing it on bringing in the big guns. This will be his last year unless he does something with the current team. They only lost 2 mediocre players so we'll see. But bringing in some major talent should help.
Number 10 in the country of U.S. Number 1 in the country of Canada A couple of top 50 from the U.S.
Good chance Chris Wood stays too

It seems like every year I say to myself "Self, UNLV has so much talent this year, not even Dave can screw this up can he?"
And then... well Dave finds a way.

For the 5 star One & Done's its all about the Draft! Create a BUZZ & GET PAID! For this reason - 4 starts for a program are a better investment. But who would't take a "rent a player 5 star".

If Wood returns BSU and UNLV will be the favorites in the MW .
Zimmerman is a quality 7 ft center . That can be very effective in the MW . wish we could recruit a quality Center to replace Skylar when he leaves . on the other hand . He is not at the same level as the top level Centers/PF that played in the All Star games with him . watched as Simmmons, Skal L. ,Thom Maker , D.Stone , C Diallo , Geter all were much better . So the " Blue Blood" schools who were also considering Zimmerman went for those guys . Zimmerman is tall , can shoot from the outside if needed , be a top center in the MW but not compared to the higher level of centers coming into college this year. Would guess he maybe similar to the center at Arizona .
UNLV has a couple of very good HS's nearby . Also is very good recruiting the AAU circuit- nation wide . Former NBA player on the coaching staff . Play a "running style " that most guys prefer . So they can recruit . Get enough talent together could get them into the top 25 or even top 10 with Wood. But then again you need to play together as a team to win . Last year they only had 7 or 8 guys so they ran out of gas . Hope we can still beat them this year . Great opportunity for Malik and Winston(if he is here) to show what they can do . Also great challenge for Skylar .

"Show me the money" and UNLV is better at that than SDSU. Money has and will continue to be SDSU's weakness.

Rebel fans have to believe that next year is their year. But if they lose Wood, not even Zimmerman will save them. But I actually hope that they do well next year. Dave Rice can only do so much before he gets fired. A good year next year should get him a good contract extension. #SaveDave

Maybe its because they were a major national powerhouse not too long ago and have documentaries about their school like the Fab 5 do... And then there's the playing in a pro-style arena with other highly regarded players ensuring scouts will always be around, not to mention family members, and playing in an actual uptempo scheme that routinely sends multiple guys to the draft and just recently sent a middling MW player to the #1 spot. Let's face it, UNLV is the most highly regarded school in the MW DESPITE their shite coaching not because of it. We can get there - nothing special about the city or people - but they have way more cache than we, and every other school on the West coast not named Arizona or UCLA, do.
Good for the conference, especially considering the bad coaching. Sour grapes people claiming shady dealings sound EXACTLY like the Lobo trolls that accuse Fisher because of our turn around.
So every school on the West Coast besides Arizona and UCLA has more cache than SDSU? Did I read that correctly? Let's see, Cal State Northridge (9-24) is on the West Coast, as well as Loyola Marymount (8-23), San Jose State (2-28), and Cal State Fullerton (9-22). Yeah, I can see how those schools would impress recruits with their cache. (Yes, sarcasm mode was turned on there.)
Let's consider the bottom 7 teams in the Pac-12 this season. Those seven, lead by the mighty Trojans' (12-20), finished with a combined W/L total of 110-111. SDSU is easily more highly regarded than any or all of the bottom Pac-12 in men's basketball (which are, in descending order in terms of Pac-12 standing. . .
Arizona St.....18-16 Oregon St.....17-14 California......18-15 Colorado.......16-18 Wash. st.......13-18 Washington...16-15 USC.............12-20
Arizona is in a class by itself in the Far West, with Gonzaga and SDSU not terribly far behind. I think that you can make a strong case that UCLA is not more highly regarded than SDSU (I am not now speaking of academics, of course).
Whether SDSU can maintain its position as one of the top 3 Far West Division I basketball schools depends on continuing our string of 25 or more wins a year and reaching the Sweet-16 or beyond fairly often .

We've had what - 14 players leave early since he arrived here 4 seasons ago? We've had a different point guard every season.? That's two huge reasons why he hasn't exceled, regardless of talent. Aztecs and Lobos have proven that stability/continuity trump talent oftentimes.
The guys not a bad coach. He's certainly learning. This season we have the key guys returning and I'm hoping that translates into wins.
We've been to the NCAA's twice under Rice. He can do better.

I would be worried, but our two best defenders: Winston and Skylar will be guarding their two best players: Wood and Zimmerman.
We'll sweep them again
