Believe USU has hired their Assistant MBB coach , Tim Duryea , as their new HC . Also UCI 's HC has decided not to take the HC at George Mason .
Chris Mullen , a former player , now an assistant with NBA Kings , never a HC , has been offered HC at his St John's school .

Mullen will have a lot to learn but he is smart and with his work ethic will turn out to be a terrific Coach.

No reason to change the momentum they have going in their program. That's going to be a solid team next year.

St. John's will get a lot of sickening media hype only because of where they're located.

NY/NE area tends to be very pro oriented, so haven't noticed much hype if any for Rutgers & St. John's, among many of the others up there. Since the old days of the Georgetown/St Johns, etc. Big East battles it doesn't seem to me any of the NY teams get much press. Maybe Manhattan when they were the Cinderella's... If the Knicks hired him there'd be 10 articles a day on Mullin.
I do think that hire would be either a home run or a complete whiff - don't think he'd end up being an "OK hire".

The population is so concentrated in the east that not much hype still represents quite a bit of fans back there, compared to out here.

Not sure what momentum USU basketball supposedly has which would justify promoting this guy. Eric Musselman by UNR seems like an immensely better choice

Eric Musselman by UNR seems like an immensely better choice Tied for 4th at 11-7 in conference despite having 1 of the 30 youngest teams in the nation, a team that returns their top 6 players. Most had them pegged near the bottom of the conference. That was a terrific coaching job last year & this was a main reason behind that being their long-time #1 assistant.

So where do you think USU will finish in the MW . BSU has a lot coming back-lose Marks gain Dremic . Aztecs waiting for WS and MP to decide about coming back .lost JJ . DP, AQ. Rebels waiting for R.V and C . W to decide about NBA or MW - but they have at least 4 new players .to go with good young group. Lobos gaining numerous players . . Fresno has scorers back . CSU and Slow Pokes lost a lot , will need transfers . So where do you see USU ?

CSU and Slow Pokes lost a lot , will need transfers . So where do you see USU ? As you note, you gotta see who returns on each team first before predicting, right? Vegas just lost Vaughn (according to 2 sources), and with or without Wood makes a difference IMO as does who else they land (e.g. Zimmerman, etc.). I see SDSU, BSU, UNLV & USU all being very good; FSU being much improved as they return nearly everyone as well, and some have mentioned NM has some good transfers coming eligible, plus Neal back. Agree CSU & Wyoming will need to reload but wouldn't count out either coach.
Nevada added a good coach & has a decent core, but probably not enough to really be a threat yet. SJSU probably won't be good but will be much improved (definitely won't be 300+ any more IMO), and AF will probably be building (perpetually).
Plus, as always, depends on who stays healthy.
Assuming no transfers/flunkouts, etc., I think what we can say is that USU & FSU probably have the fewest question marks heading into the 2016 season. They both return their entire cores, which were competitive, so both team don't have big holes to fill or unknown people stepping into key roles (& if they do that only means they've improved even more).

would guess BSU with Webb , Dremic, Duncan and the addition of Austin - PG - who had a fantastic championship game in the CA Open division , could be rated the favorite , USU and FSU have a lot back , the Aztecs and Rebels await who is coming back . Both also have newer players that could help but as we know Freshman are still freshman. Lobos should be better with all their newer player , plus CSU adds about 6 transfers .
Has the MW set how many conference games will be played this year 18 , 20 or Fisher 16 ? If it is 16 or 18 , how do they decide who you only play once .? Sure hope the other teams in the conference have learned from CSU about scheduling a decent OOC .

Mullen will have a lot to learn but he is smart and with his work ethic will turn out to be a terrific Coach. They haven't really been the same since Lou's departure. He is a throwback to that era. I remember watching him and Mark Jackson dominate. What an awesome backcourt duo they were together. This will get more rear ends in the seats. That's for sure. It won't hurt recruiting that a St. John's legend, an orginal Dream Team member, a former NY state HS POY, college hoops Hall of Famer and Naismith Hall of Famer is running the program.
