There are no rules, but most coaches follow a gentleman's agreement not to poach within a conference. But not all coaches are gentlemen.

There are no rules, but most coaches follow a gentleman's agreement not to poach within a conference. But not all coaches are gentlemen. Maybe in the 90's and early 2000's, but anyone living in the present day KNOWS that's not true. Guys have been jumping from P12 to P12 program or MW to MW schools for a LONG time, and coaches know that's part of the game. It's a 2-way street as well. Coaches tell recruits they need a commitment or they'll recruit someone else at their position only to gain a commitment, then turnaround & recruit over that kid anyway.
The only "gentlemen's agreement" would be an early signing period, or 10-year guaranteed contracts for coaches so they don't have to worry about job security (e.g. winning).

Recruiting is at least 50% of your duties , if not more for any coaching staff . You are not going to win without being able to recruit quality guys with a high ceiling and then coach then up , considering most G5 schools are not going to get many 4 star guys .
