I am a proud American. I was not offended by the way the anthem was sung, just as I think Jimi Hendrix's version at Woodstock kicked ass.
This is not Nazi Germany and we do not get told "how" to sing the anthem just as we cannot tell people they can't stand or leave early at games.
We are the land of the free and the home of the brave. The birthplace of jazz and basketball where improvisation is an art form and celebrated.
Our country rocks and so do the Aztecs, so get off of each other's cases.

The invasions of Greneda, Iraq, Vietnam, and Afghanistan had nothing to do with my free speech rights. Hussein and Ho Chi Minh were not threatening my constitutional rights. Please

He got the biggest ovation from the crowd in quite a long time. He didn't mess up any words, and his key changes complemented the song (but that assumes you know anything about musical scales). The crowd was shouting its approval during the pauses and high points (rocket's red glare) of the rendition. It was great. Old farts, get off State's lawn! ps - you want something to bitch about, Shepard's softness on offense is easy pickings. You obviously grow up in a generation where you don't appreciate the tradition of the Anthem. But, then again, you probably didn't have to do anything to defend the right to the free speech you have. My 11 year old grandson thought it was horrible, so not just "old farts" that were unhappy. As far as" getting off State's lawn," I've supported more Aztec programs than you probably ever well. So get that crap out of here! And unless you fought in the Revolutionary War or litigated a case for the ACLU, you haven't done anything to defend free speech, either.

Maybe War of 1812? There were probably a few others too in between Rev War and creation of ACLU, but I get the point.

My opinions are mine, yours are yours. We just disagree on this issue.. My last comment, it was a crappy rendition of the Anthem and I hope it never happens at Viejas again!!

I will go one further and state worse performing recruit for his HS rating in SDSU recruiting history. Close to the most bone head plays of any recent sdsu ball player. Very high turn over rate would you like it if we followed you around at the gas station and pointed out every time you made a mistake? be a fan... be a supporter of the program... don't be a douche. I get judged everyday at work and in life. If I made the same type of bonehead mistakes he makes the consequences could be great. I would not have had the roles I have had in my occupation. He is a collegiate ball player who if he makes enough bone head mistakes may cost us the game which could be a little disappointing. Not extremely dire consequences. A little criticism and maybe getting benched is the maximum consequence for his bonehead plays. I suspect he does not read this forum, but if he did I suspect there is nothing that I stated that he does not already know or suspect. Fans have every right to route for the team as well as criticize when the team is not playing up to its potential. I enjoy the Aztecs, like virtually all of the players, enjoy routing for the team and wish them the best. If they play to their potential I will be very happy regardless of the outcome of the games.

That guy must have had a much shorter and less bizarre audition tape. I was at the game and my impression was that the kids were mock-cheering the craziness and everyone cheered its completion.

I thought both were terrific. Originality is a good thing, and neither butchered the song nor showed disrespect. I'd prefer both of them over the standard generic band version any day and it's not even close. The energy in the arena after both was 10x post band rendition.
Would like to see talented students sing it every once in a while as well.

The Pep Band does an outstanding job. Forget all of the show offs.
