Brady Trenkle...he was a legitimate NCAA D1 athlete. I think he was leading the nation in 3 point shooting percentage when he went down with a back injury.

Hmm tough call. I'm sure Tapley missed a shot or two vs. Tenn, but wasn't it Kawhi that missed the corner shot as the clock was winding down? Kawhi missed a desperation trey at the buzz with a guy draped all over him that would've tied the game. KL was about a 15% 3-pt. shooter at the time, so that shot had little chance anyway. But Chase missed about as good a look as you're ever going to get down the stretch of such an important game. He was WIDE OPEN in the corner. Not a defender for 15 feet. He launched a shot that for all the world looked like it was going to go in, but ultimately rattled out. The Aztecs were down by 1 at the time. I'm convinced that had Chase made that shot, SDSU would've won. To compound matters, he turned around and fouled his man a few seconds later. The Tenn player sank both FTs, putting the Aztecs down by 3. They never recovered. Having said all that, Chase was playing with a broken shooting hand and had a sort of splint/brace on it. I have no doubt he'd have nailed that shot were it not for his injury. C'est la vive. scores.espn.go.com/ncb/playbyplay?gameId=300772633I remember that. I was celebrating before it went in. lol Dammit! Probably my fault since I jinxed him.

Brandon Heath -- on his senior night it was tough not to shed a tear knowing what he went through academically. What's it called, a Prop 48 exception? Graduated and excelled on the court.Trimaine Davis -- the most positive guy I've ever seen. J. Franklin -- loved his passion. Graduated in 3 1/2 years. Fisher described how he went from a boy with no confidence, looking down and mumbling as he spoke to a man who stood up straight, looked people in the eye and spoke with clarity and conviction. This is why parents want their kids to play for Fisher. The basketball glory is just gravy. For you younger fans, this is one of the greatest Aztec athletes off all-time. Not just basketball.

Holcomb legit talent that got drafted into the league. Heath could score with the best/ bitter that him and slaughter couldn't win one in the NCAAs. Jamaal was a roller coaster highlight machine that was a pain and pleasure to watch.

Oh man I was there for that. Just got choked up seeing that tribute again! LOVED Brandon. Had him as my honorable mention. I only had Richie above him because Richie was literally the fastest human being I have ever seen. Those teams were the 'we're almost there' era, just before the Kawhi/DJ and then X eras. So fun to root for those teams!

Randy Holcomb I bought my season tickets when Fish was hired and within 3 years, Randy, Al, Tony, Deandre , Mike and the rest helped get Fish his 1st Aztec 20 win season, MWC Tournament Championship and NCAA Tournament team. When he was hired I made a wager with my friends that Fisher would get SDSU to the Final Four. It was so long ago that I don't even remember what the wager was. But, they'll be knocking on the door next couple of years!! Loved to see the Heath video. 'You Tube' is amazing. This thread has been a nice mid-season time-out for everyone. Let's all take a deep breath and get ready for February & March!!!

How about Milton "Milky" Phelps? Led the Aztecs to its only national championship in basketball. That was in addition to being the team leader three years in a row, with the Aztecs making the championship game each of those years. Okay, it was in 1939-1941, but so what? Do we leave Abe Lincoln off a list of the greatest Presidents because he lived 150 years ago? (Phelps was killed in WWII.) (I wonder whether I am, other than Tom Ables, the only person who was ever in the old gym at State. That's the one that was the women's gym when I was a student ('62-'64).) That gym predated Peterson by quite a few years. I'm pretty sure it was torn down years ago.) AzWm This isn't about the greatest players. If it was than Phelps would have to be included along with Tony Pinkins. The subject is about favorite Aztec basketball player. Everyone's list is going to be limited by who has played since they started watching Aztec basketball. That pretty much leaves Phelps out of this discussion. Even for those of us who go back to the peach basket days will probably tend to list more recent players as all time favorites as memories of the earlier players fade. I also have been the old gym. I even saw a basketball game there. The court was short of regulation length, as I remember. I concede the validity of your response. AzWm
