It would be a terrible business decision for the chargers to remain in San Diego. If a team other than them move to LA they lose 30% of their revenue, their franchise value decreases and they lose all leverage to get a deal done in San Diego. Where does the 30% revenue from LA come from? I keep hearing that, but no one in LA cares about the Chargers. They still think the Raiders are based there. OC yes but LA no. OC residents aren't going to change and become another teams fan just because LA is on the jersey. I still don't think LA is an NFL market, they have tried and failed multiple times. The market is just as soft as San Diego, people root for winners and attend their games and care less when the team loses. Sad but true. Look at the Clippers. I hope San Diego can get something done this off season that makes sense for everyone. I agree with you about many LA fans. I know quite a few residents and they seem to prefer either the 49ers or Seahawks. Some (many?) "hate" the Rams and Raiders for leaving. I used to feel strongly about the Chargers, but have grown almost indifferent. I still feel strongly about Aztec football, but can see the same indifference taking hold, if the school leaders continue on the path they've slouched onto.

Well, you can see that firing AJ and Norv didn't help much.
They're headed for 4-5 seasons of mediocrity. No running backs, Gates will be gone next year - he's pretty much a non-starter now - and "Cry me a Rivers" doing his best QK impression.
Maybe Holy Toledo can help…

At the game the other night I asked some students what they thought about having a FB stadium on campus . What they told me was Money needs to go into security on campus , more classes , more classrooms , more teachers , more housing units , and a wide variety of other things that are needed for ever day life on the campus , a FB stadium was not a priority for the guys . LOL

Good riddance...Mr. Spanos et al...don't let the door hit you in the butt as you leave...
I guess it's better than sneaking out in the dead of night like the Colts or Browns did to their cities...
The NFL overall has peaked and is in for a long hard fall from the hearts and minds of loyal fans...in fact if it wasn't for fantasy football and gambling...the NFL would have died years ago...

I would hate to see the chargers leave. But I would be hard pressed to vote for a stadium paid for by the fans and non-fans in SD, for a multi-billion dollar league to use. As for the other team having a goodly number of fans here; if I had a $150 ticket and had watch a poor effort or could sell it for $300 and watch at home-------I'd take the $150 profit and stay home without parking and high food/drink prices. I could have a six pack for the price of one stadium beer or eat costco hotdogs and a drink for $1.50. 60/40 they move.

I don't care one way or another about the Chargers but the last thing I want to see is the GD Raiders moving back here to L.A. so if the Chargers moving would prevent that, I'm all for it. I'll add this. Jim Harbaugh is now as good as fired as the 49ers coach and when I was in the Bay Area on business three weeks ago, there was considerable speculation on KNBR680 about the Raiders hiring him. Word from Gary Raditch and others who know Jimbo pretty well was that if they were to move to San Antonio, there's no way he would take that job since he wants to remain in California more than anything but would much prefer Ann Arbor for the Michigan job or NY for the Jets over San Antone. But OTOH, he reportedly thinks very highly of Derek Carr. As a Niners fan, I would love to have Carr. Anything to get rid of that cancer Kap. Well, he's really not a cancer, he's just not very smart.

I could care less if the Chargers get a stadium downtown or move out of town. As a matter of fact I could care less about the Chargers in general. Just move off the Q site so SDSU can begin developing an SDSU West Campus!
Chargers... Don't let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya!
Go Aztecs!

Go ahead and dislike the ownership and/or disapprove of the proposed financing, but if you're a native San Diegan (let alone a sports fan) and wish the Chargers would move, knowing we'll likely never get another NFL team in most of our lifetimes, that's just idiotic.

Well, first, let's not get too ahead of ourselves. I see nothing on ESPN, nothing on the L.A. Times website, nothing in the UT saying "It's Official: Chargers to L.A."
Until then, why are we rehashing the same stuff for the 80th time? Because somebody on a second-rate website wrote a "tea leaves" column?

This is off topic. Please delete. Well, I can't resist. Just another way professional football is garbage is the "fans" who buy tickets only to sell them. Can you imagine passionate college football fans selling their tickets? I'll take our Aztec fans, however few, over Charger fans any day.

Read what Spanos said. He didn't say we need a stadium to be viable, nope he said that a team moving to la would be devastating. If that is the accurate threat, then he has two options. Block any team from moving to LA or move to LA himself. Option 1 is a pipe-dream, that leaves relocating. I don't know what Spanos is thinking but he just starkly undercut any reason to build a stadium in San Diego.

Maybe so, but the Bay Area has thousands of transplanted fans from other areas as well. I live walking distance from Oco Coliseum, and have attended many Raider games over the last couple decades. It's not the same. Raiders have been crappy for over ten years, but the fan support will never change. I don't dare wear any Charger gear. the raiders can't even fill their stadium in Oakland. There are 10,000 or so seats tarped off for every gameWell have you been too Oakland lately? The City is a disaster. No jobs many on welfare

San Diego isn't defined by the Chargers (or Padres)...it is defined by our weather...beaches...cleanliness...technology...and universities... The Chargers take money from the citizens of San Diego and redistributes it to its ownership and its players (many who are not even year-around residents of San Diego)... The Chargers are a bad deal for a great majority of San Diegans...
