Listen to Coach Fisher's Press Conference after the MBB game Saturday night . His opening statement " It was a great day for San Diego . the Chargers won in OT , Padres are putting together a murder's row battling order . Plus the Aztecs got a Win in Basketball "
Guess he thinks it is important what all the San Diego Sports teams are doing , including the Chargers . Hope he isn't faced with the choice of being just an Aztec fan or if fans can pull for both Aztecs and Chargers . Interesting his first comment was about the Chargers. We are all in it together .

I find it easy to root for the Aztecs as well as the few pro sports we offer in this town. I'm not a NASCAR fan but I root for Jimmie Johnson (but I still won't buy a Chevy). I root for Phil on the links, Kawhi against any team in the NBA and any other athlete with SD roots.

Rocky uses the Chargers and an NFL stadium to help recruit here . When the Chargers are on TV and they show the city , field and other aspects of the area it helps recruiting . Ask the football coaches ,how they use the Chargers to their advantage . A state of the art facility would really help recruiting .

What would really help recruiting is if the Chargers would allow SDSU to sell advertising in the stadium as well as sell the suites. Those alone would probably pay for the football teams scholarships every year. SDSU LOSES millions not being able to sell advertising and suits and not being able to sell concessions and parking through Aztec Shops. Those Millions would pay for upgrades to comete with the like of Boise St such as players meals, training table and dozens of other things we fans don't see inside the program.

Right now I'd rather see the Aztecs move to L.A. than the Chargers. The way the Aztecs are playing it's getting REALLY frustrating to be a fan...
At least the Chargers pull off big comeback wins against good teams despite a ton of injuries.
I've been a Chargers fan since 1978 (when they first hired DON CORYELL to be their head coach), and I will always be a Chargers fan. I was an Aztec fan first, and I will always be an Aztec fan, but I am a native San Diegan, and the Chargers are SAN DIEGO's team. The current ownership will not be the ownership 30 years from now. Owners change. The team is a source of pride and bonding for a majority of San Diegans who might otherwise have very little in common.

How much money did SDSU put in for the stadium renovation? Just curious. Same amount as the Chargers. That is correct. They could have just left for LA at that time but they didn't. The city negotiated the terms with the Chargers to keep them here so they committed to staying in San Diego for a time negotiated by both interested parties - value for value. The current proposal has the Chargers putting in about $400M for a new stadium (of course, they don't pay that their customers do just like any business does). So my point is that it is pretty hard to complain about the deal the Aztecs got with the stadium when they don't have any skin in the game. If a joint use stadium is in the future then it behooves the university to talk about what type of contribution they can make to help secure a stadium for San Diego. It is my opinion that this would be a lot cheaper than building an Aztec only stadium and wouldn't put the university athletic department in jeopardy of going belly up in 10 years. SDSU had an on campus stadium that could have been expanded to the size those here currently want, and yet they didn't do that. Why?

I just don't care. But the Facts are facts, the Chargers have put up Zero Dollars at the current Q. When the city(lead by one of the worst Mayors ever) negotiated a new lease with all those perks and expansion to the Q, it was to attract a superbowl not to keep the Chargers from LA. The We are going to LA stuff is recent not mid 90's. State has no interest in a joint Stadium with the Chargers and the Chargers have no interest in one either. The Chargers have not mentioned the Aztecs in their pitch in forever, they don't even mention the Bowls anymore either. Once the Chargers make their final move, be it leave for LA or build a stadium downtown, the Chargers and Aztecs will not be tied together in any fashion. I wish the Chargers the best of Luck.

Just curious--I know the Aztecs lease with the city gives them 5 more years to play in Qualcomm if the Chargers leave town, but if the Chargers relocate to a downtown stadium from Qualcomm do the Aztecs still get to play at the Q for 5 more years, or do they have to play downtown (or build their own on-campus stadium)?

Aztecs are guaranteed 5 years and do not need to follow the Chargers to Downtown. 2. The Chargers have an option in the current contract to be the master lease holder for Qualcomm. 3. The best use of the land at the Q, is for West Campus for San Diego State. This isn't even athletic related, but the City does not want to fight the Expansion of SDSU in it's current footprint or at Adobe Falls. But the surrounding neighborhoods at College and Del Cerro make the politicians fight against projects that they know they can't legally win and know it brings value to the City. They didn't want Cox, it happened. They didn't want the Paseo, it in a different form is happening. They didn't Greek Rebuild, it happened. They didn't want the new Private Apartments, but it is happening. Selling or Leasing the Q to State for Development, would be a political godsend for some councilmembers and supervisors. Not only for what I mention above, but especially since enrollment would increase by 13K students. Why, because they would look to have the service area opened back up to north of the 56 and other areas. They will crow that they secured greater access for their students at State. It is just a matter of when not if, JMO.
