The ONLY realistic option for SDSU among the P5 conferences is the Big-12. And that option is a very long shot. Might be better to concentrate on making this a 10 win per season program where we are. If the invitation comes, great, if not, with 10 or more wins a year the program will probably survive indefinitely.

Quite possibly so, but we are thinking about the future. Remember, TCU did poorly the first two years they were in the Big-12 but this year they are close to being a playoff team. Might not be so easy for us, but the Aztecs would get better as their recruiting improved to Big-12 standards. Or should be turn down such an offer in favor of staying forever in the MWC? AzWm

AzWm Yes, I am saying we would do very badly in the Big 12 starting off. Using the divisions above as an example, if our schedule was: TCU, Baylor, Kansas, Kansas St, BYU, Texas Tech, Oklahoma St, West Virginia with this years team we'd be lucky to win more than 1 game! That said, its a no brainer we'd have to make the leap and hope our recruiting picked up like TCU.

That said, its a no brainer we'd have to make the leap and hope our recruiting picked up like TCU. When you look at TCU and Utah you see two football programs that were very successful in the MWC before transitioning to a P5 conference - and both have struggled making the transition (Utah got hammered at home last weekend). Not only did their prior success put them a step ahead of us should we get the same opportunity it brought them a lot of goodwill from their fans who gave them some time to find their way before abandoning ship. If SDSU were to go into a P5 conference now and be a 3-4 win team over the next few years the only sound you're going to hear at the stadium (and it doesn't matter if that is the Q, a new NFL stadium or an "on campus" stadium) is crickets. I think that factors into the decision making when a potential P5 suitor looks at SDSU for possible membership. No one, not even an opponent, want to play in front of empty seats much less have those empty seats shown on national TV. SDSU has a long history of mediocrity (at times much worse than that) since making the jump into the WAC and then the MWC to overcome. The focus should be on getting to the point here year in and year out where we are in the mix for a conference championship for the one we are playing in. Since making the jump we have only done that twice, once being a shared championship, in 36 years.
