On September 14, 1991, freshman Marshall Faulk rushed 37 times for his then-NCAA record 386 yards (and 7 TDs) against Pacific. Two months later on November 24, Tony Sands of Kansas rushed for an NCAA record 58(!!) times for 396 yards and 4 TDs in the Jayhawks 53-29 victory over Missouri. The 5-foot-6 Sands earned the record with 57 seconds left in the game.
It would be 8 seasons later when on November 20, 1999, LaDainian Tomlinson of TCU rushed 43 times for 406 yards and 6 TDs in a 52-24 win over UTEP.
Tomlinson would would remain the only FBS player with 400+ rushing yards until this season. Last week, Melvin Gordon of Wisconsin rushed 25 times for 408 yards and 4 TDs in a Badgers 59-24 win over Nebraska. Today, freshman Samaje Perine of Oklahoma rushed 34 times for 427 yards and 5 TDs in a 44-7 win over Kansas to claim the rushing yard record.....for now

it should be weighted and taken within context...Gordon did it with 9 less carries, and being pulled in the 3rd quarter vs a top 20 rush defense in a key conference game. Perine ran against a run defense near the bottom of college football.
either way, let's get DP his! run, run, run, run...got it, Toledo?

And Faulk wasn't even the starting back that game.
