To be fair, every other TV station is CRT not all on the Plaza overhang. But yes, it would be better to take down all the TV's and upgrade the ones at the concession stands that are all still CRT.
The $24 per ticket price does not sound right, but everyone in SD already knows that 72K for the chargers is too much but the Spanos Family is reaping what they sowed in 1996-1998.
Put a gun to the City's head for the expansion and then in 1998 ask for a 55K seat stadium, it is why the public supports the Chargers but hates its ownership.

Hey look, a stadium thread! That's novel.

If you think the Q is bad, you ought to look at the other MWC stadiums. In fact, I would say that the majority of FBS stadiums are worse, often far worse, than the Q. It's only the NFL franchises that get the shiny new venues.
In any case, the Q is not our worst problem. Not being able to beat quality teams (we are now one W out of the last 28 games played against P5 schools) and, more often than we would like, losing to teams we should have beaten easily. In that latter category, I refer you to the UNLV game in '96 and the three losses to good but not outstanding FCS teams more recently. Oh, yes, how about going into Laramie and getting shut out by Wyoming, even though we had a guy named Faulk carrying the ball?
And let's not forget the fact that we can't get even 30K to attend almost all our games even though we are better than even money to make it 5 straight winning/bowl seasons in a row.
The stadium issue is not trivial, to be sure. But there are much more pressing problems that need resolution.

Have you ever been to another D1 stadium? They don't have TVs in the concourses. Let alone seats that include a seatback. Our stadium isn't that bad people. We have the most whiny fanbase ever.

It's almost getting easier to watch the game at home - lo def even - than going to Qualcomm.
From the ADHD kids kicking the back of your seat to the old folks who apparently can't remember to change their Depends and stink up the row, it's getting harder and harder to justify spending money to watch this team live.

Quoted for troof! Bizarre to say the least. I chafe as much as the next guy at our lack of success OOC in particular but geezus! Give it a rest already! This should be a fun year. We have a chance to win the conference fer cryinoutloud. BTW: Taped all of the MWC games that were on the tube this weekend and watched them all. SJSU even thought they lost, surprised me a little. Boise looks bad,... very very bad. Nevada looks like a very well coached team but Fajardo cannot throw the ball. Colorado State looks like they're for real. Why?-o-ming played a game it shouldn't have. it'll probably kill their season going forward. Demoralizing loss IMO. New Mexico needs to give up and join the Southland conference. I can't read Fresno because UNM is so obviously terrible in all phases of the game. They are the conference embarrassment and need to be voted off the island. Watched our game live. I thought the atmosphere in the stadium was pretty good and the team played well. I was surrounded by beer swilling, semi-obnoxious, crazed Aztec fans and that was just the women! What could possibly be better?

The problem with the Q is that it is simply too damn big. Otherwise it is not bad at all for the needs of a college team.

I like the Q for two reasons:
1) Tailgating. All that goes away with a downtown stadium. 2) Seatbacks. Sitting on bench seats all game SUCKS ASS. Especially when the more portly people take up 1 1/2 seats on either side of you. If you've ever been to the Rose Bowl for a bowl game, you know what I mean...plus a nightmare to get down the row...

our stadium is a POS but you can't upgrade it if you don't own it. The Coliseum in LA is much older than the Q but still getting nice upgrades as USC now owns it. A ton of upgrades also still planned for the Grey Lady.

You must be joking , have not been there in a little while but unless they dropped a neuron bomb on the mausoleum , the Q is light years better and you dont take your life in your hands getting there. No-one in their reight mind would take that dump or the rickety old Rose Bowel over the Q .

Hey, but they are in the process of upgrading many of the boxes from top to bottom at the Q.

Damn glad to meet ya -- AND in my right mind. The Coliseum at its worse -- basically 2 years before the '84 games -- was and is a far superior football experience (as is the Rose Bowl) to The Q. Pre-game tailgating at both is better than The Q, and in-game sight lines are light years better than The Q. The Q is the last remnant of an architectural experiment that went all Frankenstein:The multi-purpose stadium. It's just our luck to have to be the last school in America that must put up with this Monument to Horrid, Uninspired Planning. Thankfully, concrete is already falling off the dump, so it may solve our problem for us!

The TV's in the concessions areas and above some of the seating isn't the problem in the least.
The stands are WAY too far from the field (it feels like you're watching the game from up on the hill - almost), and the stadium is falling apart little by little. And it's just too big for the Aztecs. A good crowd of 40k still makes the place look empty.
It's not the worst D1 stadium by a longshot, but it's definitely one of many liabilities this program has as opposed to one of it's assets.

You do remember it was built for baseball too, right? Occurs to me that some here never saw the Padres play there for 30+ years. Actually, the seats in loge 20 endzone are slightly closer to the middle of the 50 yard line than the seats in loge 35 which is right behind the middle of the Aztec bench. I know, I moved to the endzone long ago. All in all, our stadium is better than most all in the MWC.

Yes, the tailgating is fun there, but those who tailgate on the Warrior Walk have just as good a time without paying $100 for parking. MAYBE the sight lines are better, but that's about where it stops.

You do remember it was built for baseball too, right? Occurs to me that some here never saw the Padres play there for 30+ years. And that's precisely the problem (or, one of several problems) with the Q - IT WASN'T BUILT FOR FOOTBALL. It was built to accomodate both football AND baseball. It worked much better as a baseball stadium than a football stadium. I saw probably six Padres games there, and it wasn't nearly as bad as the football experience is. A stadium built just for football would be infinitely better - the seats would be closer to the field, and the envronment would have a lot more energy from the crowd. Right now it's totally dead because it's so damned cavernous. Unless you have a crowd of 35k or more it seems like the crowd is hardly there or just doesn't care about what's going on on the field. Our seats are in the end zone, too, and they're great when the action is on this side of the 50. But when the teams are on the other side of the 50 (especially near the other end zone), they're terrible. The sideline seats should be about 30 yards closer than they are, but this stadium won't allow for that. Maybe, but that's only because most MWC stadiums are small and cheap. Some of them are total garbage. They serve a function and that's the best thing you can say about them. When you're saying that we're better than some of the worst out there that's more like damning with faint praise than anything else.
