If Rocky lets Toledo really open up the offense with QK this year , will help get the word out there that the Aztecs are a place for QB's . Then if J.R . and the others do the same in 2015 will also help . Quality HS QB's want to go to schools where there is a reputation that QB 's run the offense and of course where there is going to be an opportunity for PT . We currently are not known as a QB school .

Kelsey Grammer. Lol. Couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with a pass but had a great radio show.

Odeman evidently played from the shotgun at Ventura CC so he had the playbook, and that to deal with. Bawden was just out of high school and he has great potential I think. They have not moved Chase to safety(and when he was signed it was not as a pure QB so moving him is not and issue, and tells me they see some potential in him at QB. Chase is number one back up right now, he is a very good athlete with a strong arm, however he played like 6 positions in high school. Expecting Bawden or Odeman to be good in the Spring is really unrealistic. This is the big worry QB is Quinn's arm is not good, or he goes down. What keeps us from taking the next step is QB play.
Quinn did OK but if he is not playing well for whatever reason Rocky needs to realize and not rerun last year. Lets face it we never see these guys maybe once a year so we have no idea whats going on. Coach Rocky is a world class sandbagger when he wants to be. There is no way Odeman redshirts with six QBs in 2015 one of which is a walk on. Both Chase and Odeman can run ala Ryan Katz and Toledo would use that if he had to. What little I saw in the spring game the QBs wer running for ther elives half the time, hard to evlauate. Backup is open for Fall.

Our shaky QB and OL situations, both of which figure to be significantly more solidified next year, are why I believe some are being naive to think 2014 will be a breakout season. Instead, that will be 2015.

The kicking will be much improved as well.

But with Feely getting an extra year and The new QBs waiting in line, I'm no longer concerned with a drop off and now believe we'll continue our upward swing.

Quinn Kaehler has shown he is good enough to win games and he has some terrific WRs to work with. We should be fine even with one of the backups running things.
The thing that is going to be this Aztec Team's calling card is defense. I expect lots of sacks and turnovers, this will be Rocky's best DL line to date.

Toledo has seen what QK , the back ups and OL can do in the spring . Key in the fall will be to set up an offense that can control the ball , varied unpredictable balanced attack , some running , quick short throws to guys that can break it for longer gains . Maybe no huddle . Get the speedy guys or guys with good moves the ball in open space. Get them involved early with the short stuff. As the OL gains confidence take your shot a long ball or two but try to avoid second or third and long . Toledo knows what QK can do and look for the guy the can come the closest to what Toledo wants to do and prepare him to be ready . If you know your OL or back up QB could have some difficulties then set up a plan for success now . Don't be caught off guard by an injury .

Instead, that will be 2015. You're giving me the heebee jeebees referring to QK as a porcelain doll just about the smash into a million pieces. Where does that come from? He's never been hurt here. Took some good hits with screws in is elbow last year and threw some impressive ropes along the way. Finished with a fine performance in the Potato Bowl to top things off along with a nifty TD run of about 25 yds. too. Agreed the OL is "shaky" in the sense that positions are up for grabs at several spots. SHOULD see some people emerge this year if we have recruited guard and tackle positions well enough. Can't wait to see what August brings.

Every team is just one hit away from having to use its backup QB. My point is merely that we're going into this season relying an unsettling amount on Kaehler.
We began 2013 with a starting QB who had half a season of starts at SDSU the prior year, Dingwell, and a backup QB, QK, who had two years as a JUCO starter. This season, we have a starter who has 11 games under his belt as an SDSU starter but either a backup who has played just one year of JUCO ball as a QB, Odeman, or a guy who has never thrown a competitive college pass, Favreau. Frankly, although QK had a very good 2013 season, he was terrible in the second half against Ohio State, pretty good against Oregon State, and then terrible again in the first half of the NMSU game before settling down and playing OK in the second half of that one. All that was to be expected but if QK is a guidepost, if he goes down, given the relative inexperience of Odeman and Favreau, we're going to have at least three games of poor quarterbacking until the next guy settles in. That is IF he settles in.

Same goes for every home game this season ... we need to boost the experience level for the more challenging games (like Fresno St. & Boise St.), bowl game and for our breakout 2015 season

When the opportunities have come up to give the back-ups some experience and time on the field, we've not not done that at the QB position and the possibility of injury to the starter with the game in hand concerns me. If QK is full recovered, I'm confident he will do a good and steady job for us.
