Well somebody here needs to get off their duff and grab their tape measure and get to work on verifying that we're spending $15 million on something that will actually fit in the intended space.
Based on renderings, it should be something like 120' x 120' or larger to fit the 2 courts side by side with associated sideline space right?

To me it looks like they only have enough room for a very narrow, small building. Or, did they not take a good angle on the photos they posted. Is it going up behind the Alumni Bldg.? That doesn't seem to have much space, or does it? At the risk of the wrath of the died in the wool hoops fans, if you're suggesting the photo taken isn't 100% inspiring, I agree. That said, I suspect the interior will be more impressive than the unadorned cinder block exterior. The CMU block wall that you see is a retaining wall. It is generally preferable to not paint or put a stucco finish on retaining walls (creates maintenance issues). That wall may just disappear anyway since the facility will have a floor below the western most court for locker and meeting rooms. I would expect the exterior finish to match the adjacent alumni center since the floor plan shows walls of the BPC tying into the existing walls of the alumni center.

So who has an Ap on their phone or device that can go out to the area and get us the dimensions of the area involved ?

So who has an Ap on their phone or device that can go out to the area and get us the dimensions of the area involved ? Why? The space is big enough. Certain things should be taken on faith. This whole "is it big enough" stuff is getting a little ridiculous.

I wish there was an app to help Stan with his spacing and punctuation.

I believe the staff/ administration did their homework before they selected the site and has the dimensions that are needed for the project . I was jesting with those who hit the panic button and felt those in charge had no clue

So who has an Ap on their phone or device that can go out to the area and get us the dimensions of the area involved ? Getting the site dimensions would have been the first thing an architect would have done before even doing preliminary drawings (this may already have been done before when they built the alumni center, though any architect would do a site visit to verify dimensions). You could easily step off the site for a rough estimate of its size and you could use the court itself as a scale to estimate the size of the building if you have questions. When I scale the drawings I find the gym portion of the building to be 120' x 122' (interior 118' x 120') and at its widest points a total building size of 136' x 140'. When I compare the listed sf of 13,719 I am really close to matching that. I have walked by the site numerous times on my way to Viejas and it looks plenty big enough to me.

Is the site big enough for the building? Really?

Why is it so easy for people to believe that this school would commit to spending $15 mil. without first verifying the feasibility of the intended structure?

I've heard some pretty funny stuff on this site in the past....but this one is way up there. Leave it to the collective bball fans and their all knowing eye ball test to tell the A/E's whether or not their design will shoe horn into that site. I think the boredom of summer vacation and lack of college sports is taking it's toll on some of the Aztec faithful.

I was sincerely hoping most of the responses were tongue in cheek/sarcasm. If not, we really DO need football to start ASAP. To think a $15MM planned building wouldn't fit would rank up there with the dumbest threads in history of any college board.

I've always wondered the same thing myself. Maybe the weight of the spacecraft was in stones and it's length in hands and the distance to travel in furlongs. In other news...JPL looking into the feasibility of an intergalactic Horse Race.

I'm worried that the building may not be tall enough. I hope they have taken into account that BB rims are 10' high and most players (excluding Josh Davis of course) have an arc to their shot increasing the needed height even further!

My"Ap" says it won't fit. OMG! Now where do we put it...? Someone pass this along to the architects and planners. Maybe Hirshman needs to get involved at this point.
