Here's something very interesting, This spring alone, Kentucky has missed out on a 'Who’s Who' of elite recruits: Jaylen Brown (CAL),Cheick Diallo (Kansas), Brandon Ingram (Duke), Malik Newman (Mississippi State), Stephen Zimmerman (UNLV), Caleb Swanigan (Michigan State), Thomas Bryant (Indiana) and Antonio Blakeney (LSU). They also lost out on Shaun Kirk (N.C. State).
Unlike the last 3+ years Kentucky didn't pull down as many McDonalds All-Americans, will this change Cage's mind about the Cats?

Cage still looking at options and ready to commit before of the start of his senior HS season. August 2015, lets land MJ. Pits going to be a long summer, very long summer. This from Scout tonight. "I haven't gotten any new offers, but the same schools are after, such as Arizona, SDSU, Kentucky and a few more."
"I want to wrap everything up before the start of my senior season," he said. "I want to end it then because I want to focus on the season and not have any distractions."
"I'm probably going to start setting up my visits in August, but it's still up in the air," he said. "I can't really cut my list yet because I haven't given everyone a fair look, but I will soon."arizona.scout.com/story/1547812-cage-looking-at-options

So 95% of the 2016 HS recruits are going to participate in AAU events during the spring Summer especially when coaches have open time to recruit . then in fall most recruits will line up their visits so it gets done before senior year starts and then make an early decision close to the November early signing date . including M. Cage ..............

I think we all want mj at the mesa but when he first came on the radar the aztecs weren't pulling down recruits the way they're doing now. if he decides to go somewhere other than sdsu it won't be an armageddon scenario. on the flipside if we do get him, it's not the program altering event we envisioned when we first saw him as a recruiting prospect.
that event is a commit from someone like deandre ayton.
don't misunderstand. cage senior is family and we'd like to say the same for his son. he's a big talent and the aztecs would get better with him. I just don't think we live or die oh his letter of intent.

At the same time, Calipari has said that he won't go as deep on his bench ever again because other programs were using the lack of playing time against him for big time recruits that want 30+ minutes per game. That seems to be good for the Top 10-type players that he's going after...but for someone in that #30 range like Cage, I'd think that helps us since he could very well be recruited over and then be buried on the bench.

You may remember that the year before, Kentucky's whole starting 5 went into the Draft so Calipari's new recruits mostly started. This past year, the twins (guards) stayed along with some other starters. Calipari still brought in some studs. Too much talent on the bench was the result. Off the top of my head, I don't remember the one kid from California who was a top recruit and mostly sits on their bench. That in itself should make Cage realize that he'd only be one of many talented recruits vs. here where he would probably get far more playing time. Either way, I guess time will tell where he goes. Hopefully here if Fish wants him.

Cage isn't going to Kentucky. He doesn't want to play that far away from home.

Most people are just guessing on what M. Cage is going to do . do not think he ever said he needed to play near his home . Yes Kentucky did drop some in 2015 HS recruiting but still nabbed the top PF #1( very likely one and done) and one of the best guards for the 2015 class , both in the top 10 , also #48 recruit and even a top JUCO player , still one of the best classes . They also have a 6'9" PF from New Zealand for 2016 . Seem to go more quality then quantity for recruits . Coach does not want to juggle 10-12 guys , So it could depend on who and the Kentucky really wants to recruit . if we are lucky they could still be close to full at PF . But Arizona(who has Leaf , but would he slide to SF ? )UCLA , USC .... , and others are still options unless they can get better PF's . still a long AAU season and then the ratings will be adjusted for all recruits. .

Cage isn't going to Kentucky. He doesn't want to play that far away from home. I'm guessing he also doesn't want to sit at the end of the bench and play < 10 minutes per game. Kentucky will recruit over the top of Cage every single year. He would be a great get for our program. At Kentucky he'd play less minutes than Marcus Lee.

Unless someone on this board is buds with Cage Jr. I doubt any of us really know what's important to him? Is it important to play close to home? How important is PT? How important is it to be developed into a NBA player? Which is MOST important? How important are facilities?
Although I do agree with you & that Cage wouldn't be a high value recruit at Kentucky, they do have a lot of attractive cards to play. Sure, Lee hasn't played much but he's projected to be among their top 7 this year, so that could sell Cage. As could the fact the projected #1 pick in the draft played total of 21 minutes a game in college with Kentucky. Or the fact going there allows you to play every day against NBA talent, and practically guarantees you a trip to the S16 if not E8 annually. Lots of cards to play.
Just depends on what truly is important to Cage? Until he shows HIS hand it's nothing but random guesses unfortunately, but the good news is we haven't seen anything that would eliminate us from contention.
Between now & August/Sept/Oct, when most of these 2016 guys start really committing, is going to take a LONG time on this board....

Cage isn't going to Kentucky. He doesn't want to play that far away from home. 2014 = 10-2 2015 = 13-0 NOTHING beats being a 'hometo wn he ro.' Playing with other local former opponents and before people from all of your past maturation incarnations. That's what college football (Oops: Sports) should be about. National fame ain't $#!+ compared to Al Bundyism. Best part of SDSU is you can be a hometown hero AND have a Fisher to set you up for a later national hero opportunity if you have the stuff. But don't miss out on the college lifetime hometown experience.
