Per multiple reports. Sad day in the midst of all the San Diego flavored greatness today.

Jerry was a great announcer. The, "Coleman-isms," he was so well known for were not nearly as frequent as some would lead you to believe, and even when he made them they were endearing and just made him more likeable.
His work with the Padres and his service to this country should NEVER be forgotten. There will never be another Jerry Coleman.

Jerry was a great announcer. Technically speaking he was really not all that great an announcer but I NEVER CARED. No one can live forever but this is a devastating event for me and I'm sure many others. I have been dreading this day for years. I've been listening to Jerry since I was about six. When my father died, he and Bob Chandler were more comfort to me than anyone else, including and especially my own family. That was an existentially terrible summer to say the least and the lousy Padres and these kindhearted announcers were my only escape. Now Ted Leitner is the last sports voice remaining from my childhood and if they fire him I swear to christ somebody better look out. People have got to understand that in this scab-eat-scab world, local media institutions becoming increasingly rare. If they can go get Josh Lewin (nothing personal against him) or some other generic voice to call games for even ten cents less per year, they're gonna do it unless the public fights. Great post John. I sincerely feel the same way. I am so upset and sad that he passed. Like a family member. Ted is all we have left.

I too, grew up on Jerry Coleman. A sad day indeed for all as Jerry Coleman was a special man, and darn few of them are left.
RIP
