The current Josh Johnson thread has kind of morphed into a what's the next move for the Padres. Here are some topics to debate:
Will Chase Headley be a Padre next year?
Will Evereth Cabrera continue his .280 avg. 50+ SB form after the suspension?
Are the Padres going to sign/trade for some more power? If so, who? (Trumbo, Nelson Cruz, Giancarlo Stanton, Ryan Braun)
What is the future of the starting rotation? Who is the no.1 starter?
Are any of the current catchers worth keeping?

That's an easy one.
What's next?
Draft and develop talent until they are Major League Proven, then trade them away for future prospects.
Some things never change.

No shot on Braun, he isn't getting dealt. He also has a limited no-trade clause in his deal.
Trumbo is interesting. He has legitimate right handed power, the type that makes me think he could hit bombs in any park. His critics claim he doesn't get on base well (.290 obp last season), and is known to be much more effective in the first half before slumping big time. His career pre-All star OPS is .841 but his second half OPS is .679.
Supposedly, the Angels are looking to move him and/or Howie Kendrick for starting pitching. The Padres do have some arms, I guess it depends what all LAA is looking for.
What do you guys think about Samardzjia from Chicago? The Padres and Cubs front office have a strong working relationship, and MLBTraderumors reported the Cubs would move him for young pitching. He's a legitimate 2 starter with ace potential, but for sure a 2.

The Padres need a left handed bat in the lineup. I read somewhere a trade to address this is coming soon.

The Padres need a left handed bat in the lineup. I read somewhere a trade to address this is coming soon. Hopefully a right fielder. Improving RF significantly would be better than getting a couple of other bats. Venable can play CF and Deno can backup all.
#1 starter is not something I really care too much about - I care about the 5 starters. Who morphs into the #1 starter will be apparent by season's end. That is when having a #1 is important, the playoffs.
