The Spartans' ppg defensive average is now identical to what it was a year ago: 34 per game. However, their offense continues to get worse. SJSU's ppg annual averages since their 2006 bowl season: 24.9; 20.4; 18.7; 13.8; and so far this year: 9.0. You're just pathetically bad when a conference opponent puts its third stringers in for more than a quarter and you still can't score.
Tick, tick, tick . . .

I didn't see it, but I'd imagine 2/3 of that were BSU fans. Attendance- 20,239. I would have thought it would have been higher just to see Boise St.

NCAA attendance requirements allow a school to calculate two different ways, I believe. One is to count all games, which means SJSU could probably measure up with crowds that come to the body bag games they have scheduled.
SJSU does indeed need to get a lot better next year (i.e., at least 4 wins).

Poor Spartans can't catch a break. Utah State scores a TD with 34 seconds left to beat San Jose State, 38-34. The 12,239 fans in the stands I'm sure were disappointed. At least that's a bigger crowd than their last game.

SJSU is playing a lot of young guys and assuming that they can stay in business that long, once those guys mature and Boise, Fresno and UNR are all out of the WAC, the Spartans may have a winning team again. However, you have to wonder where recruiting will be and just how many fans will be left by then.

spartanblitz.com/index.php?/blog/1/entry-20-this-is-not-going-to-be-a-very-popular-statement-for-many-sjsu-fans/They didn't ask me for my opinion so I won't give it to them but my opinion is that SJSU has too many oldtimer Beach Boys fans who think any criticism of the administration is not being true to their school. As attendance continues to diminish and the WAC's TV contract takes a huge hit with the departure of three of the conference's best programs immediately and Hawaii once they get it together to go indy, SJSU's administration will announce it can no longer afford to fund football. I wonder what their Beach Boys alumni will think then.

I like the comment that the WAC now resembles the Sun Belt Conference. How true. Sun Belt West. Glad we're not stuck in it. By taking schools which are just moving up from DIAA rather than stealing them from the Sun Belt Conference as was once the case, the WAC now truly is no better than the SBC. And in a sense, it's actually worse. While both have members in some podunk locations, the SBC's are all in either Texas (UNT) or the Deep South, both of which are football crazy. The WAC, OTOH, plays in such places as the Kibbie & Bits Quanset Hut at the Kremlin in Moscow. Better Stadiums & Gardens Magazine voted it the poorest excuse for a football facility in the United States.

When I was a youngster half a century ago, there were a lot of California State Schools that played football. Sadly we are down to San Diego State, Fresno State, San Jose State, Sacramento State and Cal Poly.
If San Jose State goes the way of Long Beach State, Fullerton State, Los Angeles State and all of the rest, it will sure be a sad thing to see.

I would imagine no later than when SDSU receives payment for the Michigan game, the budget will be balanced (of course half is subsidized by student fees, but we'll cross that bridge when we get there) and will have won which buys more time anyways and of course, the 20k or so die hard fans that stayed and were pissed assured that it would stay. State will have adverted the disaster for a number of years and hopefully in coming years will start progressing.
I feel bad for San Jose state because they are soon to be Northridge, Long Beach, et al and won't even be a top tier team in bball in the big west.

There was a time when San Jose state was close (or at least closer) to Cal Poly as being in the upper tier academic Cal States as well. SDSU was ahead but has now begun lapping everyone in that category as well and once San Jose doesn't even have 1a sports, even fewer people will desire to go there and it will fully just be a local cal state.

Northridge joined the big sky when I was a kid in the early 90s and it seemed like they might actually survive seeing as that is a quality 1aa conference, they only lasted a couple years there, and then soon were out of business all together. 30 some cal states and UCs and only a handful play football and only 5 in 1a, soon to be 4 - sad.
